non-diaper bag for diaper bag

Does a non-diaperbag work for use as a diaper bag? I have a new versa Bradley weekender bag I was thinking of using. Has two front pockets & plenty of space. Just have to get a changing pad for it. Any other compartments I would be missing?

Re: non-diaper bag for diaper bag

  • You can pretty much turn anything into a diaper bag. As long as there is room for the essentials (diapers, wipes, changing pad, change of clothes) i think you should be fine. If you are not planning on breast feeding you need to think about space for formula and bottles.
I have a diaper bag and a smaller (smaller than the diaper bag) coach bag that i use for quick trips.

  • I'm sure it's fine. Some diaper bags have gizmos that some people really like, but that really amounts to personal preference. After awhile I was just tossing a few things in my purse, anyway.

  • I used a diaper bag for a few months and wasn't a fan- went right to a large purse. I keep 'my' stuff in a wristlet and drop that right in there.

  • My fav diaper bag was by timi & leslie! Doesn't look like a diaper bag at all. You can use any bag, but it's nice to have one that has stroller handle straps!

  • I'm planning on using a regular purse too.   And @ksulli got it right, you just have a wristlet with your cards, ID, etc that you can pop right into it so you aren't lugging around two purses :)
  • I had a diaper bag when DS was born that I used for a while but then ended up switching to a big zippered purse and I have loved it!
One thing I did that I actually really loved was instead of buying a travel changing pad I took a receiving blanket and folded in half the long way, it's the perfect size for laying on the changing table and I rolled a diaper and a wipes up in it. it's the same size but you can wash the changing table germs off when you get home easily!

  • I've always used a bag that's about the size of a big purse. DH uses the diaper bag as much as I do, so it made sense for us to get one unisex diaper bag. We already had so many bags that it seemed silly to buy another.

  • We are getting a diaper back that looks like a backpack for DH.  He wouldn't carry the other one.
  • I used this for my 2 kids, but I travel pretty lightly. I used a traditional diaper bag with DD, but I was using CDs with her and needed a bit of extra space. I recently bought a bag that's a little big bigger than the cargo purse that I intend to use for when baby #3 arrives.

  • all my purses are rediculously large so i dont really plan to have much need for a diaper bag. i am going to register for a black or neutral one just in case daddy takes her out alone, i am sure he would not be to keen on using one of my purses ;)
