Remote car starter

This is my first winter living somewhere that gets really cold (I know that's relative, but I grew up in CA and then lived in Phoenix and Vegas) so I think I would like to get a remote car starter. If you have one do you like it/use it often? Which one do you have?

Re: Remote car starter

  • We have remote starters on both vehicles. I live in Michigan and it gets freaking cold! This weekend it is supposed to be a high of 17*!!!! We have a local person that installs. I think they have Python brand. I recommend a starter for sure! So nice! The only thing I don't like is that my Edge has heated seats but it's a seperate button so the starter won't start those as well!

  • I had one in my last car and loved it! I think mine was Python too. I don't have one now, but I want one bc I am a winter wimp.

  • 17! I guess I shouldn't complain. It's in the 20s here right now and I think the high is supposed to be 39 or 40 today. But in Phoenix the high is 70 today and that is what I have lived in for a long time!

  • Mine came with the car but I highly recommend getting it. I use it more in the summer for the AC to cool the car down.

  • I used to have one, and I LOVED it. You just have to be careful if you have automatic lights - more than once the car was "accidentally" started, and while the car itself shut back off, the lights stayed on. Whomp whomp. It was great in the summer too, because I could get the AC going before I got in.

Now I drive a stick, so it's sadly not an option!

  • We use it ALL THE TIME. I highly recommend it. Mine came with the vehicle so I'm not sure what the brand is.

  • ANother question...those who got an after-market one, did it void your warranty?

  • Aftermarket alarms can cause electoral problems down the road. Won't allow the car to start. They are terrible to trace wiring. Some of them have kill switches that don't always work.

    Factory remote starts are great.
  • Mine was a negotiation I got when I bought my car. However it wasn't built into the car and the dealership had another shop install it. I'm pretty sure they installed the crappiest one available and if I were you I would definitely not do that.

If it is really cold out mine won't start my car. It is useless in the winter. Stupidly I never brought it back to the dealership to have them fix it when I realized this was the case.
