finding time to pump is almost impossible!

At night its not a big deal. Liitle man eats, goes right back to sleep and then I can pump. During the day its a different story! Obviously when he's awake I can't pump. But then when he falls asleep...the only way he stays asleep and gets a really good nap is if I hold him. If I try to lay him down after he falls asleep, he wakes up 10 minutes later. I swear he hears the pump turn on and his eyes open. Sometimes I just let him lay there and cry because my boobs are so engorged that I just NEED to pump...but then I feel terrible guilty for letting him lay and cry for 10 minutes. Any suggestions? How do all you ladies do it? There's got yo be an easier way...

    Can you get a hands free pump bra? That will free up your hands so you can at least touch/interact with baby.

    I may be wrong but if you are pumping surely you are causing more supply, which will then make your boobs more engorged? Could it maybe be better just to hand express a little to relive the pressure but hopefully not cause oversupply? You could do this one handed onto a thick burp cloth.

    @welshgirl12 is right, the more you pump, the more supply you will have. You're telling your body that you need that milk when you pump. So if you don't need that much milk, just hand express to relieve the pressure and your body will even itself out. If you're trying to build a stash of milk for going back to work or leaving LO with a sitter, I would just pump one time a day. You don't need a ton for going back to work because you'll pump instead of feed at that time and save the milk for the next day (ex, what you pump on Monday, you'll give to LO on Tuesday). 

    As far as LO, my ds is laying in his rnp right now 'talking' to me while I sit here and pump. I would suggest a hands free bra (the Simple Wishes is great or make your own with a sports bra).

    I pump in the morning after his feeding with him still on my lap. I get everything prepped and set up next to me before feeding him and once he passes out I start to pump.

    I pump on the side he is not eating on at night and usually do this during the day once too. That way he ia happy eating while I'm pumping and I'm only tied to the pump while he's tied to the boob anyway.
    I'm just pumping enough to keep some in the fridge for the late night shift bottle dh feeds him and still put away a little in stash for back to work soon.

    Thanks for all the pointers ladies! I do have a hands free bra which does make things easier. I am pumping do much because I wanted to get a bunch in the freezer. But like you all said... you really don't need that much extra because what you pump the day before you give yo them the next day. There are somyimss when I just need a break and let dh feed him a bottle.

    I only pump once a day, trying to get a little stash for whenever I need a break and DH can feed her. I'm not sure how often you pump, but DD will only eat on one side usually until she is satisfied. So what I do is, in the morning, when I feel engorged, she eats on one side and I have her in the boppy sort if turned to the side, and simultaneously pump the opposite side. Empties both my breasts and doesn't make me produce too much milk.

    Looks like I'm going to try feeding on one side in the morning and pumping the other. Great suggestion!

    The sound of the pump seems to wake my baby every time too.  Now that he is getting older, he sometimes just sits next to me in his rock n play and watches me pump.  When he fusses, rocking the rock n play with my foot makes him stop crying.  A hands free pump bra might also help you be able to interact with him but I haven't personally tried one.
