F/U to "Anyone have high BP"

DH went for his follow up yesterday and his BP was again 145/92. He also failed his EKG. He had a blood draw this morning and has to follow up with a cardiologist.  The doc started him on some BP meds and said to see the cardio and follow up in two weeks.  I'm kind of annoyed she didn't mention anything about diet or exercise and went to straight to meds.  She thinks it is mostly hereditary because all of his immediately family has similar issue. I would have rather tried lifestyle changes first(we're still going to).

Re: F/U to "Anyone have high BP"

  • That sucks that it's still high :(  Well maybe he can get it under control with lifestyle and meds and perhaps be able to wean off the meds later?  That's silly that she didn't even mention diet and exercise - easy fix!

  • @42Butterflies What do you do for a living? Just curious :)
  • My brother in law was recently diagnosed wit high blood pressure and he consulted my husband on the same issue as he didn't want to take the medication. My husband advised him that he should take it and change his diet, lifestyle, and lose some weight and then see if his doctor would cut his dose down and try to get him off of it. High blood pressure can be very dangerous if left untreated. It can cause heart attacks and strokes. My dad went years with uncontrolled high blood pressure (he didn't know he had it). He then ended up needing bypass surgery at age 53. He was in good shape and had no family history. Better be safe than sorry.
