I know they say to give baby tylenol when LO has a fever but I don't like the non-medical ingredients in baby tylenol; the first ingredient is a paraben (mad-made preservative) and I refuse to use parabens for myself, my home is paraben free so I'm not comfortable giving this to my baby! There's also corn syrup in there and a bunch of other crap.
What else can we give our baby when they have a fever? I haven't checked the ingredients in baby motrin yet, but I'm sure it's the same crap and I'm not sure if motrin is recommended for baby fevers. Everything I've read says tylenol. I just want to have something on hand in case.
Thanks!
Re: baby tylenol
The additives are there to help absorption, keep the correct ratio of medication to liquid the same (I.e. If you pull up 15mg of Tylenol, there will be 15 mg present so you don't under or overdose).
You can't use aspirin bc there is a risk of a condition of Reye's syndrome.
You can try lukewarm baths or skin to skin. Tylenol has a good safety rating among pregnant women and babies if used properly.
I don't like it either, but it's not an every day thing and IMO, benefits > costs. So my LOs get a little corn syrup and fake flavor, but their fever goes down and they feel better.
Everything in moderation.
