Lots of naps club?

edited November 2013 in May 2013 Moms
I have been putting LO down for a nap after about two hours of wakefulness (sometimes less if he gets cranky sooner.)   I read the Healthy Sleep Habits book and I thought the wakefulness guidelines were really helpful. (not the CIO part)
I think the author says that the naps should start to get longer at around six months and more predictable but I have not found that to be the case yet.   LO is a June 3 baby with a due date of May 17 so I am not sure if maybe he is tracking closer to his birth date rather than his due date.
Any way he naps for 40 minutes to an hour after about two hours of wakefulness and takes at least three to four naps a day depending on when he wakes up for the day.
I have been getting side eyed by some other moms when I tell them how many naps he takes so I am wondering if anyone else's LO does the same thing or if we are an outlier here.

  • June 3 birthday here too, and same nap situation going on! Usually she only takes 3 naps but sometimes she needs a 4th catnap in the evening.

  • M is the same. He usually takes an hour nap in the morning, a long nap in the afternoon, and another hour nap in the early evening.
  • @2010Bride2be -   that sounds rough...is it affecting his temperment or is he refreshed after the catnaps?

  • Yep. May 29 here and Lex takes 3-4 naps a day, about 30-90 minutes long. We are veeeeerry lucky. She also slept until 9:30 this morning.

  • We are in the exact same boat, I've been trying to get up the courage to stop lurking and post about it... She takes 4 - 40 minute naps a day. She is a May 17 baby, so just turned 6 months and has been like this for the last 2-3 months.  Every time I decide I should just roll with what works and makes her happy then I get side eyed by someone who thinks her nap schedule is crazy.

I'm curious... do your babies with similar nap routines get a lot of sleep at night? She gets a solid 11.5 - 12.5 hours a night, so I think she just doesn't need a lot of sleep during the day, but still needs a little snooze every 2 hours to keep her refreshed.

  • @AllieAGame my LO was up at 5:00 this morning! I think he is now on his third nap.  You definitely have a bed full of amaze balls!

  • eff you all. my baby neither naps for longer than 10 minutes nor sleeps through the night  >:P
  • 4 naps here also. He almost always naps after he nurses. Sometimes 15 min and sometimes 90, depending on how poorly he slept the night before.
  • 4 naps usually, 35-45 mins in duration. Ready for bed at 6:30 (I pick him up from daycare at 5-insert sad mommy here), and normally sleeps through the night until 6 the next morning (occasionally will wake once-normally at 4).
  • LO is only taking 2 naps, but they're averaging 1 1/2 - 2 hours each. He keeps changing it up on me, so I just roll with it. I kinda like it this way though, hopefully it stays for a while ;)
  • A used to be like this but then stopped napping all together while going through her sleep regression. Now we have finally been able to maintain an easy nap schedule. She goes down for her nap around 2-3 hrs after being awake in the morning, so like 9 or 10 and she'll sleep for about 2 hrs and then again during the afternoon around 3 for about 2 hours as well. Then she'll go to bed around 7:30ish. She only started doing this after she learned to put herself to sleep. I on the other hand have gained insomnia, its been a party.
