December 2011 Moms

MN Mommas - Hollidazzle?

Have any of you been to the Minneapolis Hollidazzle Parade? As a kid I lived in SoCali & remember the similar parades at Disneyland. Just a fun childhood memory & was thinking this could be a new tradition for the Jen4033 family. :)

I just heard on the radio that it will be starting soon & I KNOW DS would just be in awe over it and he would just flip to take a ride on the train down there! Now to just hope there is a weekend we can plan for it where the temps are not sub zero :)

Curious if any of the other couple MN mommas in here have been?  How early do you have to get there to even get a decent spot on the street?  Any experiences would be awesome to hear!

Re: MN Mommas - Hollidazzle?

  • I went a few years ago before the 2 little ones.  We took my stepdaughter there.  I got passes for the heated tent area which was so nice because it was cold out and they served hot chocolate in the tented area.

It was fun.  I'm sure my LO's would love it and we should probably try to take them sometime this year.

It does get crowded on certain days, so I would definitely plan ahead.  I have heard there are places like inside Macy's where you can sit inside and watch the parade, but can't remember exactly where.  I know the year we went we went to Kieran's for dinner and the servers there had passes to the heated tent that they tried to give to us (we didn't take then since we already  had ours).

Maybe post on the Minneapolis board?  I'm sure there are plenty of momma's on there that would have more insight :)

  • Thanks @Kelly1109. The Hot Seats appear to already be sold out for this year. Dinner downtown beforehand sounds like a good idea.

I think I will XP this to Minneapolis/St Paul board too :)

  • There was something on the radio a while back that there were going to be some big changes made to the Hollidazzle dates/times (thought they were cutting it down to not be a multi-night event...)

I messaged them on FB to see if this really was the last year. This was their response.. vague, but sounded more like they are revamping to do something different in future years. I might be blind... where on the website did you see this was the last year?

Thank you for contacting us regarding Target Holidazzle. We understand that the parade is a beloved tradition for everyone who has celebrated the parade over the last 22 years. We are always striving to create the best experience, both during the Holidays, and all year for everyone who comes to Downtown Minneapolis. Although we are looking to re-imagine the experience for next year, we are committed to making the 2013 Target Holidazzle the best it can be. We do appreciate your feedback and hope you are still able to join us for this year’s parade.

That does sound like fun!  DS has actually been seeming excited to see Santa this year, but we'll see when we get there. He freaked out last year. Didn't help that DH just handed him over & turned his back while I was talking to the photographer lady. We barely got 1 shot before he freaked out, but his facial expression totally shows he is pre-flip out.

I've heard other people mention on tv and radio that this is the last year and googled it and it says it's the last year, sad! Think we might take DS next saturday, I'm hoping it won't be as busy as black friday but I'm sure every parade will be nuts because of if being the last year. Also saw the hot seats have been sold out pretty much since they went on sale so we will bring a bunch of blankets. DS is obsessed with Christmas lights though so think it'll be fun! Also saw on their website that the parade starts at 6:30 and lasts a half hour so not bad considering it's so close to bed time.
