I started on an antibiotic Tuesday afternoon for strep throat. I noticed yesterday a small drop in my pumping output (I sent DD to daycare such that I wouldn't get her sick) and then this morning my morning pump was less than half of normal. I am feeling better but can antibiotics cause a drop in supply? The doctor assured me it was fine to take while breastfeeding and we are both on probiotics as well to hopefully avoid thrush but I wasn't anticipating this.
So for those who have had to take an antibiotic while breastfeeding did you experience anything similar? My major concern is will it come back up after I finish my prescription. I have freezer stash to cover me while I am on them but am worried if this will cause a more permanent drop. I have also upped my Fenugreek intake and am drinking as much water as possible. I will probably try to add another pumping session or two at home this evening (I already pump three times at work and cant add another). Anything else I am not thinking of? Thanks ladies.
Re: Antibiotics Tanking Supply?
Stay hydrated and get some sleep if you can - it's likely a temporary dip that you can ride out with your stash.
