For Thanksgiving dinner?

my typical dinner looks like this: turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing, candied yams, cranjello, rolls, fruit salad, and some kinda green veggie side.

My desserts are pumpkin pie, apple pie, cherry pie and pecan pie.

I'm kinda get tired of eating the same thing year after year. Mh hates to change things up and likes the traditional meal.

if i change one side or two is not going to kill him, so i wanna know what you do, and what's your favorite dish that is different then i listed above?

Re: whatcha cookin?

  • Squash casserole.

Me too. Paula Dean's recipe is so good but so bad!

  • Loading the player...
  • I also love broccoli cheese and rice casserole.

  • How about a cranberry crunch? I think it can be side dish or dessert. Whole cranberry sauce and chopped apples on the bottle. Mixture or brow sugar, oats and flower on top.

  • @amtobey Those green beans sound delish!  I was actually going to search a new recipe today, but I think I'm going to try those.  YUM!

My MIL makes amazing mashed potatoes and homemade stuffing.  I'll be making the turkey, some kind of sweet potato something (roasted, casserole...not sure yet), and a new recipe I found for homemade cranberry sauce.  Ahhh I can't wait for my house to be filled with all these smells!!

  • We do cranberry "relish" (a bag of whole cranberries, an orange or 2, sugar to taste, into the food processor for a few pulses) and it is my favorite dish.   Other stand outs are my grandmother's kick @ss mashed potatoes, and my husband's deep fried turkeys.

I am on the hunt for a good stuffing/dressing recipe, if anyone has one they wouldn't mind sharing.

  • Mnm I'm jealous of all the food I'll miss!

  • @wasnotwas NEVAR!

Actually, that stuff is pretty good.  I'll probably do both because who doesn't like a little bite o'turkey and jiggly cranberry jello stuff?  Amirite??

When I go places, I cook these green beans.
It's turned my green bean hatin' husband into a green bean lovin man. He asks me to make them ALL. THE. TIME.

And they are super easy. I don't even measure anything, just wing it.

I've cooked these before!! They are good. I've added red pepper flakes and it gives a good little kick!

  • I'm making pumpkin white chocolate cheesecake this year. I try to mix it up a bit every year, but I usually do a dessert, as that's what I'm good at. We always eat at someone else's home- so the main meal is already taken care of.

Sorry supposed to be shoofly pie. Damn autocorrect. Anywho, it's an Amish recipe it's a brown sugar and molasses pie. Also known as diabetes in a pie crust

  • We do a majorly lazy dinner because it's just us and my ILs (and my brother and he's vegetarian so he doesn't even eat the turkey):  cheese & cracker and onion dip and chips, turkey with bacon and butter, garlic mashed potatoes, sauteed brussels sprouts, mushroom rice (MIL), yams (MIL), crescent rolls and stuffing.  Dessert is always pumpkin pie (and an extra one for later for my brother lol) and something undecided.  I might make my zebra cake which is just chocolate wafer cookies with cool whip in between and then frosted with cool whip.  You let it sit at least 24 hours and the cookies get soft and when you cut it on the diagonal, zebra stripes :)

  • Maybe it's because I'm Italian but we always have lasagna as a first course before the turkey. DH and I make it a couple of days before. :-$

We serve it as a side and then people tell us it is supposed to be dessert. If you want the full recipe I can PM you when DH gets home. I know I'm forgetting one or two ingredients.

    Oh Taste of Home eh?
And did you order/pay for said book?

If it was purchased in a store then ignore this. I used to work customer service for Taste of Home and it was an unforgettable experience.

Also this may be on of the recipes I've tried as it looks familiar and it was fabulous. But then again I have made tons of different similar things.

o_O It's my MIL's book. I copy out the recipes from her books I like, and she does the same from mine. Is that allowed?! Or are ToH like Metallica and you MUST NOT SHARE THE RECIPES?

Haha no nothing like that. We would get people who "never ordered them" and won't pay for them because they "legally" don't have to. That was 90% of our call volume
