Car seat

in Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months
My little guy is 20 months we have a conversion car seat right now I am thinking of upgrading to the next car seat the one that turns into a booster seat in the end.. I'm still doing some research on which ones and what not. I can not stand my car seat now I feel like if he has one that sits up more he would be happier cause he likes to look around... Any suggestions?

    Combination seats are forward facing only and convert to high back and then no back boosters.  Your son is too young for one of those seats right now because he needs to stay rear facing.  The Graco Size4Me/MySize/Headwise (same shell but named differently as "exclusives" at different stores) will keep him rear facing to 40 pounds and then harnessed to 70 pounds, at which point he'd likely be ready for an inexpensive no back booster.

    The seat I'm looking at is a graco Argos 70 so it has more padding then some of the booster Seats I have seen the one now I have can not recline up more I do not like how he sits in it I do have him facing forward in the center he has been like that and will stay like that I am more comfortable with him that way with me being able to see him but anyways ...

    I don't think anyone was judging and helpful, relevant advice was given.  When it comes to the Radian, it would be a giant waste of money for the OP to purchase a Radian unless she is planning to return her child to rear-facing.  Also, many times Radians are outgrown in booster mode (weight wise I believe) at the same time a child outgrows the highest harness slots so many kids won't get the full range of use out of this seat.  It is a great seat for rear-facing and tight situations but in this case, OP wouldn't get all of the function out of it.  

    The Graco Size4Me/Headwise/MySize70 that a PP mentioned would probably be the most bang for your buck and would allow your child to return to rear-facing if you're open to that and will last until you need an inexpensive booster.  It is also significantly cheaper than a Radian and will last longer.

    OP, I would wait until your child needs the booster and buy a separate one. They are pretty cheap. Some of the seats out there that convert to a booster aren't considered to be as safe. Most of us around here are very pro-extended rear facing and are going to tell you to turn that kid back around. That is my suggestion. Please look at some of the crash test videos out there. It's clear that rear facing is safer. You being able to see him may make you feel more secure but isn't adding to his safety at all. My son is RF and in the middle of the back seat. It's a bitch getting him in and out of there, but it's the safest place to be. But enough about that. Buy a different seat now if you want, but don't pick one just because it converts to a booster. It's worth the little added expense to buy one separately once you need it.

    Please check out this FB page: Car Seats For The Littles. It's a very helpful page where experts give great advice on carseat safety. You can ask specific questions, like you have asked, and find out which carseat works best for your car and child. It is really much safer to have your child RFing as long as possible and to keep him in a 5-point harness until he reaches the maximum weight.. My 14-month-old has a Graco Headwise. It's a great seat that can RF to 40 lbs, FF up to 70 lbs. Good luck!

    There was no judgement.  There was sharing of the FACT (yes, literally fact) that he is not safe forward facing.  I've said it before and I'll say it again - when anyone is so defensive that they shut down and refuse to even HEAR fact based information regarding their children, that is one of the most dangerous mistakes we as parents can make.  Always be willing to calm your defense mechanism to hear people out and don't take everything personally.  Would you have felt the same if the OP said "I need suggestions on what medicine to give my child.  I'm trying *insert dangerous med* and it's not working" and we all said "No medicine of that kind is safe for a child this age.  It could kill him.  Here's what you can try instead."  It's the same thing.

    I haven't seen any judgment in this thread...Giving the facts is not judgment. A 1 year old is not safe FF. Period.

    We have the Baby Trend hybrid 3 in 1 seat for my 3yo, it's a 5pt harness then converts to high back seatbelt booster then backless booster.  We're very happy with this seat but I don't think it's right for you.  All of the seats like this that we looked at sit low, so his bottom is almost 6" lower than my DD in her convertible seat.  If I put DD (my 18mo) in his seat she wouldn't be able to see out the windows b/c it's so low.  

    There are convertible seats that go up 100 lbs (FF) and adjust to sit up straighter so you could use it until you're ready for just a high back booster.  The plain high back boosters are cheaper so you won't lose much money buying a good convertible that'll make you able to skip the harness booster and go to the high back in a few years.
