Thoughts on Sara/h?

I have been posting a lot the last few days but I think this will be the last one for a bit.

H and I have been talking about Sara/h. I know it was really popular in the late 90's and early 2000's but it is now in the 43 on the SSA list and going downwards.

What are your thoughts on Sara?

It's NMS, but not because it feels dated or anything. I think of Sarah as a really classic name. It's just a little boring for my taste. But a perfectly nice name.

For whatever reason, the name Sarah has always reminded me of maple syrup, but that's not bad (or even normal). Maple syrup is delicious.

Sarah is one of the names where I prefer the H. I like the name, either spelling, but it does feel a little vanilla.

Sarah is my first name and I hated SO MUCH being one of a dozen Sarahs in every context that I stopped going by it when I reached adulthood. Switched to my mn.

So I'm a little biased against inflicting it on anyone else . . .

That said, it's a perfectly nice name (after years of not having to be called it, I find I enjoy it on others), and it's certainly become less popular!

I do prefer Sarah to Sara.

I love Sara(h) (I prefer with an H). It would have been top of list if I didn't have three good friends with the name. Probably why its under used today, us parents have too many associations with our friends born in the 70s/80s

I absolutely love Sara. And for some reason I do like that spelling a lot better. It doesn't feel dated to me. It feels so simple/uncomplicated and pretty, and timeless.

I really like Sarah. My SIL is Sara, so I would never use it, but I fully support it on other peoples' children.

I like Sara ( it's my middle name, spelled this way). I don't like it with an H. To me it changes the pronounciation ever so slightly from Sa-ra to Sayr-rah. I think Sara is very classic and underused! Go for it!

I always heard that Jews spell it Sarah and non-Jews, Sara.

My name is Sarah and I'm not Jewish..,never heard that before. Although, it was a popular name, I like it now. And interestingly, I've never worked with a Sarah. Not sure what happend to all the ones I grew up with. Sara seems like the trendy version of a classic name to me..like Debra. But I'm obviously biased!

Classic and pretty. I prefer it with the H but either way is fine. Sara without the H always makes me think of A Little Princess which was one of my favorite books/movies as a kid.

If you want something that's similar but a little more interesting, I've always liked Sarai (sa-RYE) and Soraya (so-RYE-uh).

When I was little Sarah was my favorite name. My grandmother reminded me of that a couple weeks ago. I still like it, but there are other names I like more. Plus DH has a cousin named Sarah

There's a girl in my program named Sarah who feels much the same way about her name. But she's part of the 80s/90s Sarah crowd as well.

That doesn't really make sense. If anything, the pronunciation change would be sare-uh vs. Sare-ah. An H on the end of a name or word shouldn't change the middle vowel sound.

This is DH's favorite name if we have another girl one day. I like it, think it's really pretty, but just don't think out of all the beautiful names, Sarah could be THE name. However I have seen people say that about Anna, and to me, it was THE name. So if it is your favorite name, it's a beautiful choice.

It's a classic, biblical name. It's alsoy name.

I like that it is a classic, feminine, real name but it was frustrating being one of many in my generation. I suspect that won't be an issue for baby Sarahs today. I much prefer the traditional "Sarah" spelling, too.

I am a Sarah, and I have never had anyone give me the Say-rah pronunciation?? It's definitely pronounced the same as Sara!

We are Catholic and use the "H". It's the way it's spelled in sacred scripture, but yeah, the spelling is not exclusive to Jewish families any more than Hannah or Rebekah or Deborah or any other similar name is!

Sarah is my name and I love it. It is a beautiful, classic name. I prefer it with the H.

My name is Sarah. It was annoying having a very common first name and last name of the 80s ever, but Sarah's born now shouldn't have that problem. Go for it!

Another Sarah chiming in. I like my name. Born in '70, so definitely knew a fair amount of Sara/h's in my life, but it never bothered me. It wasn't quite like Jennifer.

I prefer it w/ the "h". Oh, and I'm not Jewish (even though I am now married to a Jewish man and have a very Jewish last name now!).

Well, my cousin who's not Jewish spells it Sarah and our friend who is half Jewish spells it Sara. I think, based on my very limited knowledge of Hebrew, that Sarah would be a more faithful transliteration of the Hebrew name. I like it either way but have a slight preference for Sarah because I've known my cousin longer than any other Sarah, so it's more familiar to me.

I love the name Sarah and it's one of two potential names if DH and I are having a girl, but I don't like either of the more "traditional" spellings of it. Thus, our version of the name is Serrah.

I think either or is perfectly fine. We are possibly thinking of using Sara if we have another girl. DD's name is Claire- and I think it goes well with it!
