Any other balding babies out there?

Lo is starting to go bald in places, mostly a big patch in the back but it is thinning on the sides too. I think I can see some new growth though coming in! Anyone else going through this?

Yes. That's exactly how my sons hair looked. Fortunately, a good friend told me about satin/silk sheets which helped with her daughters balding. My H bought some (our LO co-sleeps) a couple weeks ago and I can already tell his hair is coming back. The silk doesn't rub babies hair out. Babies rub their heads back and forth on whatever their laying on which tends to rub their hair out.

  • In exactly the same boat! I thought it was a little late for a bald spot, especially because she is rarely on her back, but I guess not.

  • Yes! My babes has the 'reverse old man' going on as well. New growth in front and on the sides, much lighter than his newborn hair.
  • Yes. I joke she has an old man mullet forming. She's balding on top with long hair in back and on the sides. I may have to give her a little trim :)
We fought cradle cap on the top of her head for a few weeks so I think all the brushing was the cause.
  • Yes! LO mainly sleeps with his head turned (either to the left or right) so he's getting bald spots on the sides of his head.
  • Yup. Bald spot of the back and on the sides like your LO. But I'm sure once they are sitting up it will grow back fast.

@CaliforniaDream87 great tip! We co-sleep also.

@LokiLahve LO had cradle cap for a spell there too. Maybe it was a contributing factor on the rate of hair loss.

I am glad we aren't the only ones balding! I know his big boy hair will be here soon but it makes me just the tiniest bit sad inside when I see those hairs in his brush.

  • Yep. My 3 DD's were all born with a lot of black hair then they lost it all. It finally grew back in light brown/blond. We have baldies. I think none of the girls got their first haircut before the age of 3. DS is losing his -- he has a little comb over and a little side hair that's it.

I'm going to have to make the switch to satin then. Thanks for posting this Cali.

Obviously, we have the same issue... LO's hair was looking like George Castanza's there for a while until the new growth started coming in.

  • My kid has the horseshoe hair thing going on. With enough in the back to make a gross rattail. It's so awesome.
  • Balding in the back but she has some blonde areas that make it look like she has lost more than she has. At the same time the top is coming in so there is that.

  • In the house right here.

  • LO has spots on the side and it has thinned a lot but already I am starting to see it grow back in on the sides. There used to be a clear spot, not all the hair is blending together. I expect it won't look that way much longer.

  • LO also has a big bald spot in the back of her head, too.  The hair is just now starting to come back...

  • Yep.

Which is really funny because DS1 was born with a TON of hair and never lost it. DS2 was born with very little hair and is starting to lose it!

  • DS was born with a full head of hair... Now? Mohawk and bald on the sides. With another bald strip in the back where he rolls from side to side. So hawt.
  • Yep she had a decent amount of dark hair when she was born, but now it's falling out on top and little blonde hairs are sprouting in (I had the same thing happen, born with dark hair which fell out and my blonde hair came in).

I'm pretty sure she might have a point where she has short blonde hair on top and a long dark mullet in the back. That would be phenomenal.

  • Yep! LO was born with a head full of dark hair and lost most of it on the top and sides. She has had craddle cap on the top of her head also, but it's clearing up a lot and she has some new hair growing in!

I thought about getting satin sheets for her crib, but we live in Upstate NY and I want her sheet to feel warm during the cold months so we have a flannel sheet for her.

I was just going to post that!

DD2 has lost a lot of the hair she was born with- more than just rubbing on sheets and so forth. She was born with dark hair and what's grown in since birth is nearly white. She has some ridiculous roots!

  • LO had the old balding man look at four weeks, the top of his head bladed but not the sides. Then it slowly grew back and hasn't fallen out since...he doesn't have a lot so I hope it stays this time!
