Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Switching from Formula to Milk.

Hi!
My baby will be one in 13 days. How did you make the switch from formula to milk?
Thanks!! :)

Re: Switching from Formula to Milk.

  • I'm starting today. She just turned 11 months! My dr said 1oz at a time for about a week or so then go to 2ozs and so on!

  • Babies/ humans don't really need milk, unless it's breast-milk, so I wouldn't stress about it. Water will suffice. Cow's milk was designed for baby cows after all.
  • Oopsy...guess I may have done it wrong. Our ped told us at 9mo visit if it was close enough to nex visit and we ran out of formula to start her on whole milk. I figured it would be the same as with formula. We went straight to her 7oz bottles and she never seemed to have a problem adjusting. Her poo became quite a bit more runny....well, it's true, lol, but she seems to like this better than formula.

This is certainly a valid approach, but it's not everyone's approach...and OP wasn't asking your opinion on whether her child should drink milk. She has already decided to give her child cow's milk, which is perfectly OK and healthy. Humans have been drinking animal milk, across the world, whether cow, goat, or camel, for millennia. Do you eat cheese? Yoghurt? Pudding? Whipped cream? Ice cream? Maybe not...but probably.

OP, if I recall, I pretty much did it cold turkey with DD, and she didn't have any problem. However, I think most people will mix half formula-half milk for a week or two before cutting out the formula completely.
