Thanksgiving lunch

We started with a new daycare this September and they seem to do special events once a month.  In September they had a petty zoo come, last month they did pumpkin picking in the playground, painted them and had a little party.  Each event I've been asked for $5.00 for.  I don't mind, they don't do field trips or ask me to bring it any food so it seems fair.  I also feel like it's supporting the school and I don't want my kids to feel left out.  Next week they're doing a Thanksgiving lunch.  For $5 my kids can get turkey, stuffing, veggies, ect., including apple and pumpkin pie.  If I don't pay they get the hot dog and beans that are on the menu for that day.
I feel like my kids would prefer the hot dog.  It's not going to be a party of anything like that, they'll sit next to a kid with the turkey at the same table.  I might pay for DD, just so she can have the pie if she wants to, but I have to check with the teacher that she can have the hot dog if that's what she wants and just pie.  I kind of feel like I'm being a pain if I don't participate thought.  WWYD?

Re: Thanksgiving lunch

  • I would think the standard menu is still offered that day for a reason, that's just my hunch. I bet they figure some kids won't want the thanksgiving meal or some parents won't want their kids to have pie or some such thing.

I'd just ask my kids which meal they want. That way they don't feel 'left out' if they don't have the special meal b/c they chose the hot dog.
  • I'm in the ask the kids camp

  • I think since you're a new family at the daycare you should ask the teachers or director if they have many families that choose to have their kiddos eat the regular lunch that day because their child likes hot dogs better. I think it's fine to ask and maybe you can pay $5 and both your kids can still have pie.
