did you get your LO a coat?

I'm jw because I heard bad things about coats and car seats. What do you plan on doing? Should I just layer her in shirts and sweatshirts? or bring a thick blanket for the car, and then put her coat on after she gets out of the car seat? Thing is she's still in her carrier and I'm not sure how that will work. I'm just a little confused.

Re: did you get your LO a coat?

  • I have a fleece bunting outfit. It's like a snow suit but it's a thinner fleece material. We've only really used it for walks in the stroller so far. In the car I just have a warm blanket and but a zip up sweat shirt on him but leave it unzipped

  • If I put anything on her, it's a thin fleece or sweatshirt. I typically just use a blanket as she's only outside from the house to the car and car to daycare. If it's cold I use a heavier blanket and if it's not so cold, I use a lighter one. I did get a snowsuit for her because daycare takes them outside year round and she'll need to be snuggly warm.

  • I plan to buckle her in the bucket, then put the coat on backwards or just use a heavy blanket for the short trip to and from the car.  The coat is really only for walks in the stroller or outside events and I can't think of what that would be.

  • I dress M in layers and put a thick blanket on him for the two second walk to the car. I bring his jacket if we are planning to be outside somewhere.

  • Right now, I use a BundleMe.  Yes, I know there's controversy with that (it is considered an after-market product and can interfere with with safety of the seat) - but in my opinion, it's safer than wearing a bulky coat, and the back part is really not much thicker than a fleece jacket anyway.

When B moves to a regular car seat, which will be very soon, I plan on putting his coat on backwards when we go to the car, and just pulling it off once I put him into his seat.

This is what we have.  J hates it but it's also really hot once you get in the car and it's warmed up.
  • I bought a few of the fleece, what do you call them, jumper things, from Carters, but I don't think I'll really be using them unless we're outside for a long period of time. In the car he'll warm up quick, and he's a sweater so I'm not looking to bundle him too much.
  • I got A an all in one snowsuit and a two piece snow suit for her carriage, for when we walk somewhere or when we go out in the snow. She has many fleece sweaters to wear in her carseat. (not all at once) When we go back and forth from the car I will just throw a blanket over her. Even when it's really freezing outside we are just running from the car to the door so we wouldn't be out more than a minute.

I need the warmer things for when we are out in the cold but I would never use them in her carseat.
