quick question about baby's movement

This really may be no big deal at all but I thought I'd ask to see if others have experienced this also.

The past two days I've noticed that when I'm lying down my baby moves drastically if I'm lying on my left side. I could feel her shaking inside and she was making violent and very strong movements, like 10 times more than I've ever noticed with her before. Then I roll over on my right side and she completely stops. Maybe just one or two small soft kicks if I'm lying on my right. Flip back over to my left and its like she in distress again and immediately starts making huge movements and honestly "seems" to be really bothered by it.

Any thoughts? Obviously I've been trying to stay on my right side but that is hard to do the whole night.

From what I've read, laying on your left side provides better blood flow to baby so maybe that's why you're feeling more movement? It could also just be baby's positioning.
This is what I have always read.  With all the BH, I am told to drink water and lay on my left side.

BKau said. She is clearly not very happy right now when I'm on my left and it makes sense that maybe its because she is a bit squished over there.  I'm just hoping she will change positions soon so I won't worry about her. :)

  • Mine switches all the time. At my last appointment the OB said the baby was transverse, but I think DS is horizontal. I was going to ask Thursday to see where the baby is lying cause honestly I can't tell.

  • I don't experience that when I'm in bed, but I do if I'm sitting and lean forward. It's like he flips the fluck out because I'm squishing him or something. I couldn't stay in that position if I tried, he won't let me. :)

This exactly.  Driving is the worst because I have to back my seat up for my belly, but lean forward a little to reach the wheel.  It's quite the challenge when he's being completely spastic. Needless to say DH does most the driving these days.

  • My little guy has been fairly mellow. He lets his presence be known and likes to tuck up under my right rib. Thankfully he isn't kicking too hard but he lets his presence be known. He likes to press out above my navel to the right and if I catch it I give him a little rub and he squirms in response. It's kinda cool :) I do NOT love when he crowds my lungs though. He does this more when I am laying down so I sleep propped up either leaning left or leaning right.

  • My LO is facing forward (head down), and he moves the most when I'm leaning or laying back. I think it gives him more room for his arms and legs so he likes to move when it's easier.

Maybe your LO is facing to your right, so when you're on your left side she's on her back and it's easiest to have a dance party. And when you're on your right, her limbs are more pinned down.

  • @cara1024  My LO seems to hate it when I lay on either side... On my left, she does like yours, moves like crazy and kicks... On my right side, she wedges herself god only knows where and causes me so much discomfort!

I stopped sleeping on my sides all together because I was not sleeping at all :/  I found a really cheap comfy wedge at walmart for $15, and it has been amazing... It keeps me upright in just the right position that I am sleeping a lot better throughout the night and LO seems to be happy happy happy (minus the "I have to pee every hour or so")

  • @Cara1024 This totally happens to me - he spazzes out when I first lie on my left, but then eventually settles down.  I've had approximately 1 billion ultrasounds this pregnancy, and at every single one they have said his movement is reassuring and normal, so I think this can be chalked up to one of those weird things...
