Babies: 6 - 9 Months

baby poo

Let's talk poo here for a minute... Since we started on solids (we went BLW), LO's poo has turned pretty solid. It had that PB consistency, but only very briefly before it became pretty solid. Pedi says as long as she's going, it's fine. However, and I'm getting a little TMI here, sometimes I'm still concerned. This morning, she had a pretty big poop, but it was very dark. Should I be concerned? I know as soon as I call the pedi, they're just going to give me the same answer that if she doesn't seem like she's in pain and she's going, it's nothing to worry about. Just curious if other's LO's have similar poo. LOL

Re: baby poo

  • My LO is on soy formula, and it's really binding, so the ped suggested a teaspoon of dark karo 3x a day to ease constipation.

  • Or feed prunes...
  • Well, I don't think she's constipated... but when I suspect she is, I usually give her a little prune juice and that totally works. I'm just curious as to whether it's supposed to be fairly "solid" or if it should still have that PB consistency. She gets 2 solid food meals/day and BM the rest of the day. She's 7.5 months.

  • DS has solid poop. We asked at his last appointment (he went in a week ago to get checked for an ear infection) and they said as long as it's  not tough little pellets, it's okay. I was surprised at  how solid his poops are - I don't remember DS1's getting solid so quickly.
  • Some of DDs poos will be really dark brown and some will be green and some orange (usually when she's had a lot of carrots or squash).  I think black might be bad but I'm not sure.  And as long as LO isn't in pain I think you're fine.  DD will sometimes go every day or twice a day and then she'll go 2 days with nothing.  I don't worry unless she starts looking uncomfortable like she's trying to go but nothing's happening.
