DD is a pretty crappy sleeper and I'm trying to fix that. When I put her down for a nap, I've noticed that if I tuck a blanket around her really tight, she sleeps better. I usually put it just above the waist, so pretty far from her head. (she's in daycare, so this is for weekends only)
We just started to unswaddle her in the past 2-3 weeks because she's finally rolling over in the crib. She can roll both ways, but just hadn't overnight. And she was sleeping really good swaddled. Now...she's up all damn night. We started CIO last night and the last time I went in around 10pm, I tucked the blanket around her and she went right to sleep. I moved it off because I was worried about leaving it overnight, but WWYD? I really feel that she will sleep better with a blanket. Not a thick one, and not a big one. She's probably almost longer than the blanket as it is.
Re: Would you use a blanket in the crib?
How old? I use one with my 8 month old. From her waist down, tucked under her at the sides. It is a home made knit one (so has air holes).
My daughter does not move in the crib though, she doesn't roll, sit, stand or anything she goes down in one position and wakes in that position (she's weird). Also, if you did any form of CIO I would be more weary as your baby may be calling for help. I go in when my daughter wakes so it is less concern.
Also we didn't start using the blanket until she passed the 'blanket test' which my husband spent a lot of time playing. basically when she's lying down he would throw the blanket over her face. For months she would just lie there, still, calm, waiting for us to remove it (again weird kid). Finally she started to use her hands to effectively pull it off her face. We did that with her many times a day for many days until we were confident she was skilled enough to do it if it ended up on her face. But, again, if we did any form of CIO I wouldn't be comfortable leaving it in crib. Or if she moved a lot in her sleep, as I don't know she's wake to remove it if asleep.
Yes! We use a knit blanket as well with lots of spaces/holes in it this way if she pulls it near her face its okay
I did watch him at nap time a lot before leaving the blanket on him at night.
New Mommy since 4/3/13
We have let LO have one for quite a while now (7.5 mo) She loves to sleep with it by her face or pulling it over her face as she goes to sleep. However by the time she gets to sleep she has it clutched in her fist by her side. It used to bother me, but I have gotten used to it now.
Same with my son. He's always slept with a blanket.
I used a blanket last night - it was a flannel receiving blanket that I tucked around DD since she was wearing a pajama set and socks. The pants kept riding up leaving her calves exposed and I didn't want her to get cold. It was a pretty thin blanket, I just figured it would trap the warmth next to her skin. I didn't have any issues.
Normally I put her in a fleece footed sleeper over a regular onesie but I need to do laundry . . .
