Cold hands

We officially moved DD to her crib for good this week, third times a charm O:). DD can sleep anywhere so it barely phased her and she's been sleeping great. I have, however run into one issue I was not expecting and at a loss of how to solve. Z has been waking up with her hands ICE cold. Everywhere else is normal temp, it's just her hands. She has outgrown the mittens we have and I am hesitant to try them anyway because she likes her hands on her face occasionally. Has anyone else faced this and have an idea how to fix it? TIA!

Re: Cold hands

  • DS likes to put his hands in his mouth, but for the most part while he is sleeping they stay out. We've occasionally used some (clean) baby socks on his hands to keep them warm.
"The cleaning, the scrubbing will wait til tomorrow,
For children grow up, as I've learned to my sorrow.
So, quiet down cobwebs. Dust go to sleep.
I'm rocking my baby and babies don't keep."

  • Someone on here mentioned sox awhile ago- and those work well and stay on. Lately I've been having her wear the mittens that came with her winter hat.

  • We are having the same problem. I feel so bad for them. I was thinking the baby mittens but I'm paranoid and nervous he would take them off and then he'd choke on them (he puts his hands in his mouth so much).

We have this same problem too and I forgot to ask the pedi if it was an issue. I think as long as the baby's core body tempature is warm then your LO is okay. So if you put your hand and feel the back of the neck or chest and that feels toasty then your LO is fine.
This is what our pedi said. They aren't able to regulate their body temp yet.
This was my gut reaction, she has always slept cold so we dress her in layers. I just hate the thought of her being uncomfortable.

    I third this!

  • I'm happy you asked this! I was wondering the same thing. I say 'cold hands, warm heart'. ;) but I figured it had to do with not being able to regulate body temperature yet.
  • Can you just try those sleepers with sleeves and the little flaps that go over their hands? I've been meaning to do the same, but little man runs hot at night.
