Packing dinner for DC

DH and I work 1030-7p. DD DC is open 630-730p and we drop her off at about 945 to 10a so she has breakfast at home every morning and eats lunch at DC. However due to state regulations children who stay after 6p parents must supply dinner. That's no issue, the issue is again due to state regulations they are not allowed to heat food for your child. I get why they can't, but what can I send? It has to be a fruit, veggie, and a protein/meat. The fruit and veggie are easy she can eat that cold. But I don't want her eating cold beans, or chicken, etc. I mean she eats her real dinner when we get home anyway, I wish I could just send her a snack to hold her over but of course I follow the rules. Any good ideas?

  • How about hummus with vegetables or pita bread? Nut free and high protein.

    Cubed turkey breast and cheese?
And you can argue that yogurt is a protein.
    Sunbutter on crackers.

I will add that we are a completely sunbutter house so I highly recommend it.
  • DD's center used to have summer "picnics" and we had to send lunch on those days.  I would send something warm in an insulated Thermos container like this and it stayed really warm.  You'd have a little more elapsed time but it might still be OK if you put the food in piping hot.

  • Hard boiled eggs? Hummus was a good one too mentioned above .
  • I'd send yogurt or cheese.

  • DS loves ham and cheese cubes not heated.
    DS: 2/17/11          DD: 9/4/13
  • DS loved cold chick peas at that age.  Hard boiled eggs, cheese sticks or cubes are also good options.  DS would also eat ham or chicken cold.

  • I send in hot lunch for LO. I heat it up in the microwave and put it in a thermos. I preheat the thermos for 5-10 mins which is critical for keeping food at temp plus the food should be hotter than eatable when you put it in. Then her fruit is cold on the side. Here is a list of items I send: chili, pasta with beef/sauce, mac n cheese, soup, chowder, pot pie muffin, meatloaf muffin... list goes on.
  • Cottage cheese, Greek yogurts (Chobani makes kid sizes), ham and cheese roll ups, Oscar Mayer lunchables...maybe browse some vegetarian sites for more non-meat protein alternatives
