Pre-E?

I am so confused. I just got the results back in the 24 hour urine catch they did in the hospital. From what the numbers say and what I looked up about them online, it looks like I'm spilling protein. Apparently anything over 300 is indicative of pre-e, and mine was 313. Google says that this, plus the high BP, headaches, and sudden weight gain = pre-e.

The results came directly from the hospital's electronic chart system. I haven't heard anything from my OB. I called and left a message explaining that I didn't understand what I was seeing and asking for clarification, but haven't heard back.

Anyone have any clue if there's something I can be doing to start feeling better? I know the only "cure" is delivery, but is there anything I can do in the meantime (diet changes, vitamins, anything)? I almost wish they didn't send out results like that...they should be accompanied by an explanation of what to do!!!! Or at least a note saying "we'll call you soon...don't google!"

Re: Pre-E?

  • Maybe I'm looking at it wrong and it's not pre-e at all. Maybe they are busy rolling their eyes at an over reactive, over protective mom-to-be!!!

  • Wow, I had no idea it could get so serious that fast. I'd heard of people going on bed rest with it and I guess that made me think that, while serious, it wasn't something to really worry over, if that makes sense. I just had the high BP at my last appointment, and also discovered that I gained 5 lbs in a week when it's usually hard for me to maintain. The headaches have gotten worse, but since I get migraines, I didn't really think much of it. Dumb.

I just heard back from my OB's nurse. They are want me to do a 12 hour catch overnight and then come in at 8 tomorrow morning to see the OB.

I find it odd that you have access to your results without having to first speak to the doctor or nurse. I hope you get a call back soon.

@hijinx: Our electronic notification system works the same way- we get all of our test results online. Although any time we've had "bad" results we've gotten a call first from a doctor to answer questions and come up with a game plan moving forward.

TBH, I hate this system. I'm an obsessive googler...if I get info I don't understand, I must search until I figure it out. I've never had the hospital send me results before (I think they just started using the system) but my OB's office has for while. They've always included an email about the results. For instance, they emailed me to take iron when I turned up anemic in the results. They don't call very much, which I prefer, as it's easier to check email than to find time to chat on the phone. I do NOT like that the hospital sent the results to me without any explanation though.

  • Eaf, sending lots of T&P to you. Try to get some rest tonight and hope they can get you on monitor and answer some questions tomorrow.
