DS2 qualifies for special ed!!

I am so totally relieved! He had his 3 yr evaluation today to see if he should transition from Early Intervention to Early Childhood Special Ed. The speech path who sees him weekly asked me yesterday how much I felt I understood him and I estimated about 70% if I can figure things out through context or process of elimination. He said he feels he sometimes only understands 30% of what DS2 is saying. Today I was asked the same question by the speech path doing the evaluation and she said she only understood about 20% of what he was saying. But his vocabulary is very good, it is just his phonology or articulation that is his problem. So his official diagnosis is a Communication Disorder. He is now qualified for services for the next 3 years and I am so relieved!!

I posted a week or so ago that I was worried he would plateau, or worse, loose what he has gained. But now I don't have to fret about evaluations for 3 yrs which should get him through the first semester of kindergarten, and I'm hoping he'll overcome his issues by then through the therapy. It sounds like he can continue to get treatment at home, but his service provider will change from EI to a ECSE one.

Anyway, I just wanted to update. (And brag, if that makes any kind of sense! :P )
