We started last month and my lo loves it. I had trouble at first with the changing before and after but have almost mastered it now. I go with my bathing suit on underneath, take 2 towels, a blanket and change pad. Then after I wrap him up, put him on the change pad and change myself first, otherwise I found I ended up getting him all wet. If you can still carry the car seat and it fits in a locker, I would bring it.
We did it with G and I was going to start soon with Lo but I may be having some issues with our local Y (see asked to nurse in bathroom thread!). G loved it though. I could see how it would be a lot of logistics coordination with one parent but we went on the weekend so we could both get in and it was awesome. We just make sure we only sign up for classes in the super warm pool though because the few times a pool was chilly G freaked out!
@tttwalters. Thanks for the advice, i hadn't even thoughabout that! Do you just put lo in the lil swimmer diapers??? @majwv8 we are going to the y, you might beable to do a google search for places nearby that offerthe clases?? :-)
I used to teach that class!! I need to get B to actually take the class- but it was super fun teaching it! I would say the vast majority of babies loved it. I taught it for 5 years and I can only think of a handful of babies that weren't having fun!
@CarolynL8 there are youtube videos that you can watch! It looks like fun! @DaniJake617 it might dry him out...i wonder if it would help??? Maybe check w your pedi!
@stefanie6743 - just keep a big smile on your face while your doing it- that fools most babies in to thinking it is awesome! But word of warning- babies don't know how to blow bubbles yet nor how to avoid swallowing water. If when you get out the water, your LO looks pregnant, ease up on the underwater next time.
I'm looking for one in my new city. Any BTDTs have experience with the YMCA class for 6 Mon - 2yo? (Though I'm thinking of a boycott depending on the reaction to the BF post!)
We've done all the sessions at the Y from 6 mo on and liked it, though it is 100% dependent on the teacher you get and there is a ton of variation at our center. I would ask parents in your area which teachers are the best and sign up for that session. I am super dependent on our Y for fun with the kids so I am really torn about battling them, though I don't see how I can keep going without feeding one of my kids!
