Another update on DD's kidney issue

We had a follow-up with the kidney doctor.  Sounds like we probably won't get a real diagnosis..maybe ever..most tests have come back good.  A couple came back abnormal, but the doctor still doesn't have enough information to say much.  Basically we know that she has extra calcium around her kidneys and isn't retaining fluids like she should so we just have to give her lots of liquids and continue monitoring her throughout her life.  It's frustrating, but I guess probably better than having every test come back extremely negative...

Sorry you didn't get any answers; it must be very frustrating. I am glad the tests weren't negative, though.

Do you know if either of her birth parents have kidney issues in their families? I wonder if someone may have similar symptoms (with a diagnosis).
I spoke with her birth mother and she said that her and her daughter do not have any issues. Her mother, however, does have some kidney issues but as an adult and they are pretty minimal..no "diagnosis" to speak of, just that one of her kidneys doesn't currently function at 100%.

  • Frustrating to not know for sure what you're dealing with, but sounds like good news that it's not a clear-cut negative diagnosis.  Hope it doesn't turn into a bigger issue and she stays healthy!
  • Ugh that's good and bad news I guess. Great news that its nothing more serious, but I agree with PPs that it would be really frustrating :(

  • How frustrating! Continued thoughts & prayers for your DD. Maybe sometime in the future, there will be a test that can tell you exactly what's up.

  • How frustrating. Glad to hear though that doctors are thinking as long as you keep up with medical checks she should be just fine!!

  • So sorry you and DD have to deal with this. Hope she stays healthy and it will just be routine checks along the way. It's so frustrating to not have a concrete answer to what's wrong.
