What will your baby eat for Thanksgiving?

edited November 2013 in April 2013 Moms
What will your baby eat for Thanksgiving? Puree-feeding moms, did you get a special, festive type of food? BLW moms, are you planning to limit your baby to eating only the "healthy" stuff (like meat and veggies), or will you let him or her try a little bit of everything?

It depends. Some days she loves food others not so much. If she's in an eating mood than I'll let her try most things. I just don't want to overload her with too much.

  • Ava loves sweet potato puree so we'll probably give her that. I'll probably just save the ones we already have until then.
  • We do BLW so she'll get whatever she feels like eating! I'm cooking so I'll most likely set aside a few servings of certain things (mashed potatoes come to mind) and give her an unsalted version in order to limit her salt intake. Beyond that (and dessert), she'll get to taste it all.

  • I chose "BLW and LO will get a taste of everything" but he won't be getting any dessert. :)

  • I have a turkey puree set aside but she will also get to try some of what we are eating.

  • Since I've been super lazy with the solids train, they may only get bottles, but if they are awake for dinner, I'll plop some potatoes and sweet potatoes on their trays and let them play with it.  I'll probably spoon feed some kind of puree if I have time.  I am cooking, so that's very debatable.

  • Baby does mostly puree's but I'll probably let him try bits of my food too.

  • I don't BLW but I do often give LO what I'm eating. So she will probably have some mashed potatoes, squash and even a little turkey!

  • We do BLW so he will be getting what I'm eating except no salt or add ins/ons. Also he won't be getting any dessert :) he still has no teeth but he "chews" (gums) it very, very well and can swallow without a problem. As usual, people are always concerned about choking and I just tell them that I know the difference between choking and gagging and he is fine. Works every time :)
  • We usually do purées but if appropriate give him some of whatever we're eating. Thanksgiving we'll let him sample a little bit of everything!

  • Ava is fed all purées but I might let her try some turkey and I will do mashed potatoes and sweet potatoes. Maybe some other kind of veggie, whatever is there.
  • LO is pretty much on all table food so he will have a little of everything (no salads or raw veggies of course). His favorite purée was always pumpkin so you bet your ass I'm excited to give him a little pumpkin pie too. :)

  • He will be trying everything. He just started really getting into white meat so I think he will love turkey. He hasn't had dressing yet or pumpkin with added sugar. That will be interesting. I will let him have a little taste of it all! Except the pecan bars of course lol.

  • SS - Canadian Thanksgiving was the day after DS turned 6 months, and I hadn't even started solids yet. He just got his usual breastmilk.

Wil you just give teeny pieces of turkey and rolls?
@cece2682 We do a combo of self-feeding and spoon feeding. We will probably do some shredded turkey (he has already had shredded chicken), let him pick up things like green beans, and we will spoon feed him some sweet potatoes. I personally probably won't do rolls because there's really no nutritional value there in white bread. We won't do dessert. We PROBABLY won't do cranberry sauce because it's so sweet (homemade), although part of me wants to.

  • We had a mild dairy issue, so we can't give him what we're having (most people put milk in their mashed potatoes etc.) I'm creating a special Thanksgiving menu for him. Most of it is already done. Pureed green beans, apples, sweet potatoes, broccoli, turkey and of course, pumpkin for dessert. Probably 1-2 cubes of each and maybe a taste of mashed potatoes before the milk and butter are added.

  • I'll have a jar of some type of turkey baby food on hand in case, but I'll give her pieces of most of what we're eating (dark meat turkey, mashed potatoes, cooked veggies). I make an awesome pumpkin cheesecake and wouldn't mind giving her a taste. My concern is that my mom is cooking, and while it's always fantastic, it is generously seasoned. LO isn't used to so much seasoning yet, and I will probably ask her to back off on the salt a bit or set some aside.
