Will my LO need a helmet?

So I know we have a few babies on our board who wear helmets, so I am wondering what the exact reason is for wearing one? I took LO to the pedi today for his shots, and he said he is concerned about the flat spot on the right side of his head. LO has been sitting for about a month so he is not laying down nearly as much as he used to. He has very good range of motion in his neck so pedi is not concerned about that. He said he is concerned bc no matter what position I put him in, he still ends up lying on that right side. So he is sending us to a specialist at the children's hospital. He said a helmet may not be necessary, so what other options are there?

  • I guess other options might be is maybe using a positioning pillow?

  • There's always the "wait and see" though I have a friend who did that because she wasn't going to put "her kid in a helmet"...her words. And now my babies have beautiful round noggins and her baby's head still has a very noticeable flat spot. And plus, the helmet is adorable!
Talk to the specialist, we didn't really talk about other options as we were in the severe category so the helmet WAS our option.
