2nd Trimester

Who here drinks coffee?

I have recently been made to feel bad by more than one co-worker about drinking coffee that my Dr said was ok. (1-2 cups per day) So, I was interested to see who here in 2nd tri is drinking some coffee on a daily basis...

Re: Who here drinks coffee?

  • 2 cups every morning - and no decaf here.

Tell the others to mind their own business - they don't have medical degrees, right?

I hate that though - people are so quick to judge us these days, aren't they!?

I drink Coke too.  It's either one or the other though.

  • I don't drink coffee, but it has nothing to do with the caffeine.  I just don't like the taste.  My doctor also told me 1-2 cups a day is perfectly fine.  Your co-workers should just keep their mouths shut.  Everyone thinks they are experts when it comes to pregnancy!

If your Dr. has ok'd it then tell your co-irkers to shove it.  Pregnancy police are ridiculous!

  • Tell them to STFU. ?I'd be a danger in the workplace without my morning coffee. No guilt here.?image
  • I drink coffee from time to time, and lately I've been drinking coke almost every day. Doctor said it was perfectly fine to have either in moderation.
  • Drinking a latte right now!  It's half decaf, though, so I can have coke later, too.  My dr suggested caffeine for my headaches.  Tell those people to mind their business.
  • I was not a big coffee drinker to begin with, so it was very easy for me to just cut it out all together.

My doctor also ok'd 1-2 cups a day though. I wouldn't worry about it. I don't drink coffee as a choice, not because I can't.

    THIS IS VERY TRUE.

Ever read the side of a bottle of Excedrin? The main ingredient is caffeine and IT WORKS.

  • I do, one cup every morning.   I'd tell your co-workers to be a little more up-to-date on their prenatal research before they start passing out advise to pregnant women...

  • I drank coffee before BFP and during 1st tri, I didn't really want it anymore.

I now have the half-caf, but I still don't desire it as much as I used to and have a least a cup a week.

My doc didn't even tell me how much I should and shouldn't have, I went to her and said that I had cut back and was having 1 or 2 cups. She was fine with that.

I do have an addiction to coke and chocolate though, so its a good thing I no longer want the coffee. Also, I used to smoke and drink my morning cup, and since I no longer have that ritual of drinking my morning cup, I don't even think about a cigarette.

PS to lurking prego police: I quit before BFP. No need for any lectures here.?

  • Grande Starbucks Latte nearly everyday....
  • Your co-workers need to get a d@mn life. I don't like the taste of coffee. i have my fair share of Coke and any thing else I feel like drinking(non-alcoholic of course).
  • Thanks! yes, one of the same co-workers that had a problem with my coffee drinking asked why I wasn't having a cocktail at the company Holiday party. lol.
  • ---I do! Not as much as pre-pg though. I do have a cup or two in the morning. It REALLY helps curb the darn headaches that come with pregnancy. And I agree...everyone else seems to think that they know what's best for your baby. Its frusterating.

I use to drink a coffee from starbucks just about everyday and I had so many people give me sh!t about it. Tongue Tied I can no longer drink coffee because they ruined it for me.

  • I don't drink coffee but coke or tea a few times a week. I would listen to your dr. and not the people in your office.

  • I drink 1-2 cups of coffee a day too, and occasionally a caffeinated soft drink too. One of the worst things about pregnancy is being judged by all these other nosy people! Seems like none of us can do anything right! Don't let them get to you - caffeine in moderation is perfectly safe. Hang in there!
  • 1 cup or so, I try to stick with decaf.  We have a side business in tea, so I drink while tea.  The other day, one of the shop workers brought up me drinking tea, she was shy about it and wasn't trying to be rude.  I said, it was okay by my midwife and she seemed okay with it after that.

Ever have a waitress say something?  I ordered a salad that had feta and she said, are you sure you want to that?  I ordered a beer just to really throw her off.

  • I do. I had a co-worker tease me about drinking coffee while pregnant so I made sure to announce to her each morning that I was enjoying my coffee. She wasn't judging, just teasing. I'd still announce it to judging co-workers, sort of to "steal their thunder" I guess. Then laugh and walk away.

  • I drink 2 cups a day and my Dr. said that's fine!
  • tell them that you can, and to go scratch! give me a break people need to shove a sock in it....I drink 1 cup a day but that all I ever drink anyways..if that

  • I LOVE coffee.  I didn't drink it during the 1st tri just bc the smell makde me feel ill.  That feeling passed around 13 weeks and I've been drinking 1-2 cups per day since then.  My midwife said it is fine and if your dr gave you the okay, then pooh on anyone that is giving you crap!  keep up your coffee drinking!  =)
  • *Raises hand*  I do!  Sometimes two cups a day.  I also drink Dt. Mt. Dew!  We're not talking giant lattes with extra shots from Starbucks!

What is it about pregnancy that makes randoms think they can just offer unsolicited advice?  I wouldn't say anything to a pregnant woman about her diet/personal habits unless I saw her smoking a crack rock.  I

I have discovered a new way to deal with nosy commenters, for those situations when they tell me not to drink coffee, soda, eat fish, or dye my hair.  I laugh politely and say something along the lines of "That's funny, my grandma and great aunts mentioned the exact same thing.  Actually, according to my OB and the modern pregnancy books on the market, _____ has been proven perfectly safe and has been for quite a few years now.  But, thanks for your concern!"

  • Not coffee but tea.  Its not a problem if its in moderation
  • Me! I have cut back though. I've already slammed my coworkers about giving thier medical opinions, especially since this is my third child and niether of them have any. They've learned to back off.
