Working Moms

Over Night DC

Does anyone have over night child care? I work 2nd shift (7p-7a) and DH will most likely be going back to 3rd (10p-6a) in January. As of right now my parents watch the kids but my mom isn't able to handle DS very well. I don't know what to do. I can't go to first shift either, too much of a pay cut.

Re: Over Night DC

  • Is a nanny an option? I haven't come across any centers open past 6, personally.

  • If your husband is able to handle bedtime, and you're there when the kids are getting up, then there's not much for your mom to handle, as the kids will be asleep...right? Or am I missing something?

  • Are you going to be paying for both overnight and daytime child care? (Obviously you both need to sleep during the day.). If so, then maybe it wouldn't be such a huge paycut to go to first shift since you'd only be paying for daytime childcare, not both. Just a thought.

  • We have a great sitter who will stay overnight with DD.  When DH was away for work and my aunt suddenly died, my sitter stayed with DD for two nights so I could fly to the funeral and help my devastated cousins.

Of course, my sitter is a fantastic friend whom I trust with DD more than anything.  I did pay her well.  I'm not sure how pay would work during overnights.  Try Care.com and see what they say about this subject.
