Talk to me about nipple piercings

**Whoops, this was suppose to go on Parenting.  But feel free to continue.***

I'm considering it and I know there are some lovely ladies on here who have them, so give me your experiences.  Or if you don't have one, but want or wanted them at some point, give me your reasons for not getting it done yet or at all.

But to those that do, how do you feel about them now?  Any regrets?  Tell me about your experience getting them done and the healing process.  Did they increase/decrease sensation physically or mentally?  What was your SO's reaction to them?  How do you feel having them and being a mom?

I really really want them, but I'm scared, so if you have them and love them, give me your most convincing thoughts.

Re: Talk to me about nipple piercings

  • my sister has her done. she loves em. has 2 kids and they never bothered her during pregnancy. She didnt breastfeed because she chose not to not because they wouldnt let her. She heeled fast and said that they didnt hurt. said her nose hurt worse to get done. she didnt even flinch (i on the other hand nearly passed out watching)
i say if you want it go for it! if i had more balls id do it...but im a chicken poop!

  • I feel like I've seen a discussion about this on the TTGP board too...

No help here.  I don't do well with needles and can't imagine doing this.  More power to you if you go for it.
  • I had just one done. I wore a small curved eye brow ring through it. I liked it. DH said it was just another ring; he could take it or leave it. I have ten in my ears and my belly button done too. The nipple hurt a lot less than a couple I have in my ears. It healed fast and was never infected.

I took it out when I was 12 weeks pregnant because my breasts were so swelled up it was bugging me. Looking back I probably could have just put a circular ring in it or something longer than the small eye brow ring and it would have been fine.

I exclusively pumped for 6 months so I don't think it would have been an issue. There is no visible scar. It did not affect my milk supply. That side actually just happened to produce more. I never had mastitis. I may get it done again some day but I'll just wait now until I'm done having kids and growing from an A cup to a F cup.

FWIW I'm glad I did just one. I don't know why but I liked just having a little boob bling without feeling like I was a hooker. You and your SO will be the only ones to see it/them though so it's just personal preference.
  • It seems like a lot of the people who took them out did so because of pregnancy, which is awesome, 'cos I already got that out of the way and am about 95% sure we're OAD.  And I know my SO would go crazy for it, he's been pushing me to do it since he got his done.

    Thanks for the experiences, ladies!

I really really wanted to get one in college. I went to the studio to get it done but they were mysteriously closed during hours when they were supposed to be open so I took that as a sign and never got it done LOL. I had so so many troubles with breastfeeding that I am now really glad I didn't do it because I can't imagine adding any more troubles onto our plate than what we were already dealing with. Lots of women successfully breastfeed after/during piercings, but extra milk can come out of the pierced holes making the letdown more forceful, which can complicate latching. Of course, the jewelry always has to be removed while feeding because it's a choking hazard for the baby and with as sore as my boobs were, I can't even imagine having to deal with taking it in and out all the time. I feel like if you don't plan on having more kids or ever breastfeeding, then the piercings shouldn't ever be a problem. They do make your nipple look different once you decide to remove the piercing though. I only wanted one done so it did bother me that each nipple would look different once I decided to remove it. Not sure if that would be an issue for you or not.

  • I had them both done when I was 18 and took them out....hmm...a few years ago maybe? Like at 26...? I was just tired of them really. The piercing itself hurt, but I have a really low pain tolerance. But healing and all, NBD. At the time, I though it made them more sensitive, but after I took them out I didn't notice a negative difference. Funny thing though, I nursed DS and I guess the holes never fully heal because milk would totally come out of them sometimes. TMI, I know, but hey, you asked!
  • I had both mine done when I was younger.  I've taken them out because one started growing out and then I just hated the hassle of worrying about them getting caught on something.  I'm not going to lie it hurt.  Ever pull at a knot in your hair with a brush and accidentally whack your boob? That pain lasts for a few days constantly and going over bumps in the car or doing anything that makes your boobs bounce intensifies it.  I did like it though, my SO loved it but I just grew out of it.
  • I have both of mine done.  Breast feeding was interesting because milk came out of those holes too (the rings were out of course).  I really like them a lot.  I am 31 and have had them done since I was 22.
