I am 37 weeks tomorrow and found out a few weeks ago my baby is breech. We had a childbirth class yesterday and it made me even more certain I want a natural childbirth. I want the baby placed directly on my chest after birth and snuggle time with me papa and baby. I do not want a c section for this reason because they take the baby away from mom for at least 30 mins while they close up after surgery. I am going to the dr this week to have a version done. I am praying we can get the baby to turn so I can have the natural birth I want! Has anyone else had any luck with versions being done?

I'm fortunate enough to not need one of these, as my baby is in a great position.

However, I have seen some other mamas out there on the bump who have breech babies post some old tricks/wivestales of how to get the baby to flip. Perhaps you could try a search (i.e. breech babies)? Also I'm sure google has some great resources if you do a search on there.

Being that you can actually go into labor at anytime,its kind of hard to say...but my heart and prayers go out to you...I totally understand how you feel....I think the doctor can assist in turning the baby...check out this link...dont stress too much

DS was breech, we discovered it at about 35.5 weeks. I went in for a version at 36.5 weeks, and the OB couldn't turn him, he said baby was too big already and had his head wedged into my rib cage. I started going to a chiropractor 2-3 times/week as well as spinning babies techniques.

In the end he never turned and was still breech when I went into labour just before 41 weeks. I too wanted a natural birth (at home). When my water broke it had merconium in it, which for the OB on call meant I had to have a c-section ASAP. My midwife couldn't step in at this point since the poop was a sign he might be in distress.

Good luck. I recommend to read up on and prepare mentally for the chance you will need a c-section. I tried to ignore this and in the end I think it made it that much harder to deal with when it actually happened. I kept thinking he would turn last minute, but that didn't happen.

Didn't have one, but I did have two sections and I wanted to let you know that your info isn't accurate. I held both of my kids in the OR immediately following their births.

I would wait on the version only because you are early term (full term is 39 weeks now). The baby can flip right back to breech. Wait as long as you can if you feel compelled to attempt it.

I had a version and it failed. I understand where you are coming from completely. I am going in for my scheduled C-Section on Tuesday and still have not come to complete terms with it yet. I have tried everything, but do suggest that you go to spinningbabies.com. They have so many different things you can try. I tried them all to no avail but I feel good knowing that I literally did everything that I can. Also, talk to your Dr. Our local maternity center believes in immediate skin-to-skin and only take the baby to do the normal things they do even in a vaginal birth but then give her right back. She will be with me on my chest as they "sew me up" with the help of hubby. This very well may be something that you can request. Express your concerns and say that this is what you want.

Hopefully you wont have to worry about it but just in case

I don't post on here often at all, but I recently found out my baby was footling breech at 36 weeks. I did a lot of the exercises and suggestions that I found Spinning Babies and luckily today at my non-stress test we found out that he had flipped head down. However, before that I did do a lot of research and I found a few threads on the Bump about C-section birth plans. In the event that you need the c-section, maybe having a birth plan with some of the things you would like happen including the skin to skin contact could be helpful for you to have. I hope your little one turns for you!

I'm not sure why your hospital/dr policy is to take the baby away for at least 30 min after c-section... I've had two c-sections due to breech babies and after the normal routine 5-min of checks (which would be performed with baby lying on my chest if I'd had a vaginal delivery) they immediately brought the babies to me and pressed her face against mine and let my husband hold her with me while they were sewing me up. So you may want to double check what your hospital/doctor does... a c-section does not automatically mean the baby goes away.

I tried a version for my second breech baby, and it went fine until it went badly and we had the baby via c-section right then, just over two weeks early. She recovered very quickly once she was out, and proceeded to be super healthy and nurse great and everything. Bonding was wonderful. So, while I totally sympathize with the desire to have a vaginal birth (I wanted that!!!), I found it was hard to be anything but excited and grateful with my beautiful healthy snuggly newborns safely in my arms... regardless of how they came out.

Thanks for all your input! I just had a tour of the maternity ward at my hospital and they said the dad and baby have to leave while I'm sewn up and wait in the nursery. I just want to be with my husband and baby right after. I will be happy either way knowing me and baby are safe and healthy I would just rather a natural birth is all. I am having a version done this week to flip the baby and if it doesn't work we will schedule a c section right after!

We tried a version with my first and it didn't work. I am small and carried very small. There just wasn't room. I still think it is worth a shot. My ob did 2 other versions that day that the nurse said were successful.

If your baby can't be flipped ask about a natural csection. I held my daughter on my chest while they closed me up and began breastfeeding as soon as we were in recovery.

In the event it doesn't work and you have to have a c-section, talk to your OB and hospital and see if they'll let your baby stay with you.

My twins were both transverse (automatic c/s) and they didn't leave my side at all while I was being stitched up and in recovery. DH was also allowed to stay and he held them up to close to me so we could have skin-to-skin contact. They were also weighed and measured in my recovery room after I'd held them and were nursing within the hour. That is the standard procedure at our hospital unless there are medical complications that arise.

I found out last week my baby was breech. I have been doing the exercises on spinning babies, have seen a chiropractor multiple times, and went for acupuncture. I also soak in a warm tub with a bag of frozen peas on my tummy where the tech showed me her head was every night. I find out the end of the week if she has turned. If she hasn't flipped I will schedule a version.

DD was breech, but I couldn't have a version because of other complications. I had a c-section, but she and DH stayed with me the whole time. I had her laying on my as they wheeled me out of the OR to recovery. I agree with PPs, talk to the hospital and see what they can do.

I tried two versions, one without a spinal block, one with, tri-weekly acupuncture for a month, moxibustion, and laying on an ironing board propped up on the couch, feet up, head down (didn't really think that'd do much) and nothing worked. But I went into labor naturally, water broke on it's own, and I progressed steadily. Luckily, my hospital was/is trying to bring back natural breech births, as long as the pregnancy is uncomplicated, and a doctor who is learned in breech delivery is available, a trial of labor is permitted, and a vaginal birth attempted. My son was born a-okay, no issues, and I made history at my hospital being the first, first-time mom to vaginally breech deliver since the early '90's. If you'd like to avoid major surgery, and your hospitals team is prepared and willing to give it a go, and you are willing too, go for it. It's worth it. And you'll have the satisfaction that at least you tried, if you end up needing a c/s. You can do it!!!
