My cousin burned her house down with a space heater. I am very weary of them...especially unattended in a baby's room. My daughters room is the coldest in our house, and our house is large and cold. We just layer her up...she sleeps fine. Do you really need the extra heat? How cold is the room at night?
We use a Solar Comfort. It's pricey ($300), but works great and is much safer than traditional heaters. Impossible to tip over, has a wooden case, and uses bulbs for heat. Only drawback is its very loud, so when it kicks off, it's obvious. Have not used it in LO room yet at night, but plan to when it starts getting colder.
We have a little sunheat heater from Walmart. It has a thermostat control so it kicks on and off. It only runs at night so I'm not worried about tipping over etc. She also still wakes up multiple times a night so we are in and out of her room constantly so I don't worry too much.
We got a $20 one from Home Depot that I do not think they carry anymore, it is 1500 watt and shaped kind of circular with a fan (it is not the Lasko one, which we have in our bedroom). It switches on and off with a thermostat, but the key feature on that one that Lasko one does not have, is that if you tip it even slightly, it shuts off.
I agree with layering. Even though we keep our house on 72-73 at night DDs room sometimes feels cooler so I just add a layer. And sometimes we wind up putting her in bed with us if she seems cold and she sleeps great.
For christmas 2 years ago my aunt bought each person in our family one of those fake fireplace heaters. We had no use for it until now, it's in los room
