May 2013 Moms

I may be a PW today, I have lots of questions

1.  For those with babies sitting up, are you still using the bumbo?  DD tries to climb out of it, so I wonder if it's just time to retire.

2. When do we move our babies out of the infant car seats into convertibles (I think is whats next)?  We have a Graco ClickConnect 30, and while she's nowhere near 30 lbs, she's getting a little long for it/it's getting hard to carry around anymore.

3.  For anyone who has introduced meats, how are your babies reacting?  DD has LOVED every single food she's been introduced to, but hated turkey.  What do you do when your LO doesn't like a food.

Sorry if any of these questions are a repeat.

Re: I may be a PW today, I have lots of questions

  • 1. With my first LO we used the bumbo with the snack tray until she was 10 months just for snacks.

    2. You have to switch when they outgrow the weight OR height limit. We switched DD at 6 months when she could sit in a high chair at restaurants. We will probably switch DS after thanksgiving which will be right at 6 months.

    3. Keep offering the food. It can 10-15x for them to "like" it.

  • 1. We use our bumbo only for eating. He doesn't hang out in it because he escapes.

    2. I am getting our convertible car seat this week. The carrier is too heavy for me.

    3. My guy loves food and will eat anything.
  • I could be wrong but here's what I think:
    1. Never used a bumbo so I can't comment on this one.

    2. I think you're supposed to stop using the infant seat when their head is at or higher than the head rest (or when they reach the weight limit, whichever comes first).

    3. I'd wait a few days or a week and try the turkey again. I definitely wouldn't give up on it after just one attempt unless there was an allergic reaction. My girls have only had chicken so far (in BLW form) and seemed to like it - they sucked on it like a lollipop.

  • I use the bumbo once in awhile for meals but that's about it.
We are about to switch, I'm going to look at deals around Black Friday and cyber Monday.
We haven't even done a veggie or fruit lol we are doing that this weekend :)

  • not sure how much help we'll be but here goes:

    1. Nope, we never had a bumbo, but we had a summer infant super seat that we don't use very often anymore. Mostly she gets her high chair for "meals" and then we just plop her on the floor or on the couch the rest of the time. Sometimes we'll still stick her in the seat just because there's toys for her to play with if we really wanna distract her for a bit (i.e. use the bathroom or something)

    2. like others said, it's when they hit their height or weight limit. That aint happening anytime soon over here so I haven't even started thinking about it. I figure we'll probably get a convertible seat when S gets to be a year old (pretty sure she won't outgrow it till then) just because we can't really take her carseat into school anymore once she transitions into the older kids room.

    3. we're still on fruits and veggies and not much of it is actually ingested, but I say keep trying!

  • 1. We are still using the Bumbo. Once he gets fat legs or bored with it we'll stop.

    2. DS is only 28 inches, but our seat will allow him to use it until 32 inches. So, I figure we'll switch in 2 or 3 months. The funny thing is the seat says it's up to 35 lbs..I'd love to see that baby. DS is a little over 15 lbs and will probably weigh around 20 when we have to switch him due to length.

I am looking for deals. Got DS1s convertible for free.

    3. No meat...just veggies, fruit, & cereal. DS1 hated the meat baby food & even my moms cat wouldn't eat it.

  • We stopped using the bumbo once he could sit up. His thighs barely fit in it anymore anyway :)

We switched to convertible when he was 3.5 months! I just didn't like toting it around (heavy!) and he seemed much more comfortable in the convertible.

Haven't done meat yet, but I think the texture can through kids off. Just keep offering! Maybe switch up how it's prepared.

  • Thanks ladies.  I'm retiring both the bumbo and the infant seat.  Up to a convertible we go!

  • I'm late to the game but here goes.

    1. For those with babies sitting up, are you still using the bumbo? We only use the bumbo at my mums as a makeshift high chair. E never liked it.

    2. When do we move our babies out of the infant car seats into convertibles (I think is whats next)? We have maxi cosi and it's 15kg for us. Probably by the time she's 1yo.

    3. For anyone who has introduced meats, how are your babies reacting? DD LOVED every single meat and fish dish I've given her so far. she's was unsure about the texture but once she became familiarised with it she loves. If she doesn't like something (like apples) I try it again in about 3-4 days time. Turns out she does like apples.
