Rash on face

Today I noticed my 3.5 week old has small, not raised, red dots on her cheeks. No other symptoms...she's not fussy, no fever, she's eating fine (EBF), normal pees and poops. It faded after about 20 minutes and is mostly gone now. This is the second time I've noticed it. I called the nurse line and they basically said don't worry about it, it's a normal newborn rash, unless it persists or is accompanied by other symptoms, but I'm still a little worried. Anyone else's LO get a
similar rash? I attached a picture, hopefully it works.

Re: Rash on face

  • Could be anything.  Skin may be sensitive to soaps or fragrances.  I noticed LO had a rash after a bath.  Now, i just wipe his face first with a wet cloth.  He then gets bathed in Aveno Sensitive.  Sometimes Lo gets a small rash when other people hold him.  His face is on their shirt which has a different soap.....

  • It looks sort of like baby acne. My LO had it when she was around 3 to 4 weeks old. It took about a week to clear up on it's own.

  • My son, now 9 weeks old, had baby acne which looked very similar. I make sure I wash his face with a damp washcloth every morning. Also my mother-in-law bought me this ointment from the Burt's Bees line called "Baby Bee" made specifically for sensitive baby skin and I put a tiny dab of that on his skin after it air dries, and it has completely cleared up. Good luck, I hope you find something that works for you!
  • My LO has a very similar rash and we actually had his 1 month appointment with the pedi today, he saw it, just mentioned it was a baby rash and not to worry about it.

  • Looks like baby acne. We switched to aveeno baby wash (from j&j lavender) and it helped quite a bit.

  • My LOs skin looked that way around that age.  It was baby acne.  It gets worse before it gets better.  It spread to his entire head (scalp included) and a little on his upper chest/back/shoulders. His peaked at about 5.5-6 weeks and is super faded now, you can really barely see it.  I just left it alone, per my pediatrician's instructions.  Ask your pediatrician about anything you are concerned about!

  • Looks like baby acne and newborn rash. My son had the same thing and it cleared up on its own. Ask your pediatrician about it again if it doesn't improve in a few weeks.
