EBF needing to STTN

Since LO "slept like a baby" last night (up every hour, except the 3 hours she was up every 20 minutes) , I found this particularly encouraging. I still want my STTN back, but this is all temporary.

  • I have the same problems. I nurse to sleep as well and am up every two hours after that for him to eat. At 3, I just left him to fuss in his crib and it never turned into actual crying but it still took him 45 min to fall asleep. Since I am listening to him fuss in his crib, ready to jump out of bed when he starts crying, I am still missing that chunk of sleep. He used to be able to go 5-6 hours as the first chunk and than 1-2x after that so I don't know what happened.
  • This is great - thanks for posting!

  • Yep agree 100%. If the only thing my kids aren't good at is sleep, I'll take it :)

  • Thanks for posting this! It totally validated what I personally believed, but didn't have any "evidence" for. A sleep expert came and talked to my mommy group a while back, and she made me feel like I was doing something wrong by nursing to sleep and letting LO sleep on me during the day. I can now shrug all that off.

    Again, thank you.

  • This is awesome, thank you for posting!
  • Thank you so much for posting. I nurse E to sleep every night. Sometimes I get 9-10 hour stretches, sometimes only 3-4. There is no rhyme, reason, or tried and true training method, IMO. I plan on nursing to sleep until she doesn't need it anymore.

Thanks for this. Some ammo against my CIO pushing husband....

This.  I especially loved the Psychology Today piece that was linked.  I feel like between the reverse cycling and the teething we have going on at the moment, STTN is just not a possibility.  And I function okay with getting up 3+ times at night to feed LO - so I'm just rolling with it.  I know I won't be nursing LO to sleep and getting up to nurse in the MOTN forever, so I can deal with it :-)

It also really helped drive home the fact that some LOs don't have *consistent* sleep schedules, so I shouldn't worry if it's changing from week to week.

I'm in the same boat. DH and I actually had an argument about this before bed tonight. It's challenging when you both have different philosophy's on this matter.
  • "It’s hard being a new parent. Not just because of the incredible changes affecting every facet of your life – your career, your finances, your home and your relationship – but because everyone has an opinion. About everything you are doing, and more importantly everything you are doing wrong."

That was my favorite line!!! I didn't realize so many people have an opinion about the way you feed your baby. Its crazy how many times someone will tell me how they think my son should be nourished.

  • I loved this. I have nursed both kids to sleep and I figure it wouldn't come so naturally to baby and mama if it were wrong.

  • Thanks so much for posting this!!! I always nurse Alyssa to sleep and hear all the time how "unhealthy" it is but I love my snuggle time and it works for her. She's teething right now so her sleep patterns are all messed up.
