Hey all...
So my son was born at 34+4 after 4 days of on and off bleeding and hospital bed rest. I had been diagnosed with GD and a Complete Previa that they had told me was moving to a partial and did not look like it was attached to my uterus.
They planned for a c-section after my 3rd major bleed in 4 days, in addition to what they felt was mild preeclampsia. After they got the baby out, I heard the doctors talking about getting most of my placenta off and then saying there was a piece attached to my uterus that they couldn't remove. The doctor came around the curtain and said the safest way to get the placenta out was to remove my uterus. I knew this was a possibility and we are done having kids, so I was ok with it. I got 1 blood transfusion during the surgery and 3 more afterwards. I felt like crap for a few days but am feeling better now. It was definitely a bit worse than my recovery for my previous c-section.
Baby boy was born at 7 lbs 2 oz (what would he have been full term!) and 19 1/4 inches long. He is still in the NICU 2 weeks later - He is off all oxygen since Friday but now just has to eat. He would rather get it through the tube than breastfeed or take it in a bottle. We're hoping it all falls into place soon so he can come home!

It took 7 IUIs but it was totally worth it!

I know for us, it took our son about 8 days of mostly tube feedings (i.e. sometimes only 0-10mL formula via bottle, the rest in the tube) till we began to "challenge" him and the doctors decided to feed ONLY with a bottle and just see how he did. Three days later, he was ready to be discharged! We had another snag after that and he stayed another week, but it was completely unrelated to the feeding. For us, it took about 11 days for him to be on full bottles, but I know it was longer than usual, as per the nurses and doctors. (I hope that gives you an idea of what can happen regarding bottle feedings and late-term preemies. I know I was googling a ton a few weeks ago, when we were in the NICU. 34 weekers are notorious for being lazy eaters, and my DS was definitely one of them.)
