Does anyone else's LO have this and will need to have an MRI soon to check on spinal cord growth? We have an MRI scheduled on December 23. Just wanted to know if anyone else has a LO with it so I am not alone.

    I just googled this because in didn't know what it was and omg my LO has one. I thought it was just a cute dimple. I'm calling the pedi in the morning.
    Eta- I hope the ultrasound comes out good and the dimple doesn't mean anything for your LO!

    @bel194 Lots of babies have a dimple. If you can see the base, it's fine. When it's a hole that you can't see the bottom of that's when you worry about the spinal cord.

    I have one, so does my brother, my cousin, and now LO.  She had an MRI.  It wasn't horrible, but it was not great.  Although she fortunately was fine, the process was not a treat.  She could not eat and had a sore throat after.  However, I was impressed by how good of a mood she was in for not eating the five or six hours prior.  Just make sure to get a bottle in LO at the last possible minute they allow you to feed him/her.  Good luck!
    PS - I thought hers was bad and it turned out fine.  It also took a week to get the results, even though they originally told us two days.

    My lo has it. We got an ultrasound and they said it was superficial. I was worried when I first heard she had one...until my mom told me I had it for the last 28 years and I never knew lol

    The pedi at the hospital when she was born discovered it. It is just a "y" shape. No hole. They did an ultrasound at birth and said we had to do an MRI between 6 and 8 months...so December 23rd it is. My pedi doesn't seem all concerned based on what she read on the ultrasound at birth but the MRI is to check to make sure it is not tethered.

    Hmm I have noticed DD has this but never thought it could be anything serious. The pedi would have said something if she was concerned right? I'll bring it up at her 6 month well exam just in case.

    I was made to believe that it was part of the newborn screening. I would have thought they would have caught it.
