Are school buses ok?

I am a teacher and a coach, so I go on school buses quite a lot for field trips and away games. The other day my friend asked me if I was going to be driving my car to away games instead of taking the bus. I asked why she would think that. She told me that it is not safe to ride a school bus if you are pregnant because it is so bumpy and there is no seat belts. Is this true????? This sounds kind of fare fetched. I figured I would ask you ladies before I ask my OB

  • I think you'll be just fine. It may start to get pretty uncomfortable the further along you are, but I don't think there is a safety issue...

  • I am going on the school bus on Wed for a field trip.  Also the busses I have been on all have seat belts.  I have to sit up front since I will get nauseous but you should be fine.

  • yeah if you can run throughout most of your pregnancy i am assuming a bus ride would be fine...i would worry most about getting motion sickness....i don't do well on school buses:(

  • I wonder if her friend also things pooping could cause you to push the baby out?

**My friends 7 year old thought that hitting bumps in the car would cause her baby to fall out and also thought that if her mom went poop she would push the baby out.  Also, according to her ham makes you have big boobs.  Just a thought.  lol

  • It's safe up until right before your due. It might be uncomfortable but it won't hurt the baby. Close to the due date though the bumps could induce labor.

    New Mommy!!!

  • It is fine.

  • I don't think it's unsafe, one thing though is make sure you wash your hands all the time, I don't know what grade your teaching but if they are little kids by any chance you don't want to contract CMV regardless if your on a buss or off it

  • Pregnancy wise it's fine. If you're physically uncomfortable/extra nauseous from the bumping and driving is an option I might consider it but I'm guessing you probably are expected to be on board as a chaperone.

She may be onto something @Ellyd14.

haha.  She came to this conclusion because I told her my favorite food was ham sandwiches one day and her mom said she didn't like ham sandwiches.  Which made her statement a few minutes later that much funnier.  Butt he best part was when she saw her first grade teacher eating a ham sandwich and started talking to her about it.  lol.  I don't remember the whole story, but I remember it being hilarious.

  • My sister is also a teacher and a coach and to my knowledge had taken the school bus to almost all their games throughout her 2 pregnancies.. Except now that the kids are older, and it is easier just to drive now.
  • That's a little far fetched. Riding on a school bus is perfectly ok. Did it during my last pregnancy, and no issues. School buses are surprisingly safe.

  • If sex is safe, I think we can assume that the school bus won't be bumpier than that.
