April 2013 Moms

Another diaper question...

Moms of boys, what kind of diapers are you using?  We've always used Pampers but right now I think he's between a size 3 and 4, and suddenly it is blow-out city... we've never had that issue before, and in the last week I've totally destroyed 3 outfits.  Boo.

James is in size 9 or 12 month clothing and he's a big boy -- although now for the life of me I cannot remember his most recent stats.  23 lbs and 29 inches, maybe?  I know he was in the 92nd %ile for height and weight.

Re: Another diaper question...

  • Miles is about the same size. We use Huggies snug and dry (or whatever it's called....elastic at the back. Gah, brain no work) and haven't had any blowouts with them. Size 4 We use the Huggies Overnights as well, though if he's had a bottle in the middle of the night and hasn't had a diaper change, he'll almost always wake up soaked.

  • My guy is definitely on the skinny and tall side (14lbs 10oz and 26.5" at 6 mos) but we use Luvs with very few issues.

  • I have a big guy also. Right now he is 23lbs. We have been using size 4 Luvs. Haven't had any issues.

  • I have a big guy as well, we use size 3 baby dry during the day and size 4 during the nights.

  • We've been using Pampers Swaddlers sensitive but maybe I should give Huggies or Luvs a try...

  • My guy is 16# 8oz and 27.25"long and I'm using Huggies or BRU band size 3 during the day and Pampers size 3 at night.  So far we haven't had a blow out, but have come close when he is in his pooperoo (aka jumperoo).

  • Ah yes, the dreaded blow out.  Welcome to our world.  Honestly, when I moved to cruisers, the next size up, and did 3 solids a day...the blowouts stopped. I'm sure they will return as we approach size 4.

I wonder if today's is because he didn't have any solids yesterday, just bottles.

  • I have a skinny, long guy (19 lbs 7 ounces 29 3/4 inches) we use Huggies Snug & dry & Huggies for overnights as well. I was using pampers overnights but we had a few blowouts

  • We've already switched to size 4 and our LO is 20.5 lbs... I can't remember how long he is though.  But the 3's don't cover his butt very well anymore.  His buttcrack sticks out a little.

  • We use Huggies during the day, they moderately contain a blow out. If it's a bad one, it's still up to his neck and I don't think anything other than cloth can remedy that. Makes me nervous for our first visit to Santa, having to stand in line for a long time. I'm praying he'll poop before we leave the house (but you KNOW he won't! He's Totally gonna crap all over the white onesie I'm putting him in!!)

We double diaper with the Pampers 12 hr at nite and that keeps the leaks in from LO sleeping on his tummy.

  • We use Up and Up (you're welcome). I have found that Up and Up is better for holding in poop, but Pampers Baby Dry works best for pee, so we do put him in the Baby Dry at night. We are just moving into size 4 over here.

Maybe I shall revisit Up and Up.  There was something about them that DH didn't like so we switched, but I would rather use them anyway!

  • We didn't care for the up and up brand when lo was a newborn.. too many blowouts.  Maybe they would work better now that poo is a little thicker though.

In my experience, the Swaddles are horrible at holding in/catching poop. Give the Baby Dry or Cruisers a try if you are a Pampers fan. Cruisers are Pampers' "high end" diaper for bigger babies (much like the Swaddlers for infants) and were the next step for more active babies before they made Swaddlers in the bigger sizes.

ETA: Also, can't hurt to double-check basics (time to move up a size? done up tight enough? gussets on the side un-tucked so poo can't follow them out?) but I bet you did that already :)

ETA2: Just checked the Pampers website...size 4 fits 22 lbs and up on all 3 types of diaper

  • We have been having blowouts in pampers snide Will became a size 2. We prefer Huggies or use Up&up. He is in a size three now, but at bedtimes we use a 4 so he doesn't leak. So far we haven't had any issues. We have also used Luvs and I had less blowout with Luvs than I did with Pampers.

  • Huggies and huggies overnights.  They work great!  I used them on my son and now my girls.  I only liked pampers for the newborn stage.

TTC since May 2006. After 3 failed Clomid cycles, 2 failed Injectibles/IUIs, 2 failed IVFs and 1 failed FET, we moved on to adoption!

  • I am using size 4's. I have been using Huggies Little Movers for about a month now. They are great and I have never had a blow out until this weekend, I am going to go one size up, but these ones are really big on him anyways.. maybe I might go back to size 3 if it keeps happening.

  • We use Pampers Swaddlers size two and have never had a problem with a blowout. However, I notice that depending on which position he is sitting in when he poops, have determined some close calls for us. If he's sitting on the floor or in his highchair, the force from him pushing in a sitting position have caused a few close calls. If he's laying down or in his car seat, it comes out just fine :) I think it's harder for him to poop while sitting up thus harder pushing=blowouts :)

That is the thing with Connor, he won't poop now unless he is sitting, so it doesn't go anywhere but up his back or out the side near the straps. If I try to pick him up, I interrupt his pooping and he stops. lol
