19-month old suddenly refusing to go to bed

This entire week DD has not gone to bed easily.  She throws a fit when we leave her in her crib.  She throws all of her comfort items out of her crib. We tried letting her cry it out, she just continues to get worked up to the point that she is coughing from all of her screaming, at which point we do go in and get her.     She seemed to have a bit of a cold two nights this week (no cry-it-out those nights).  But even after we gave her Tylenol and tried holding her, she would not relax and settle down.  She just wanted to play, which is really frustrating.  We have not changed her routine - jammies, DH reads stories downstairs, I take her upstairs and sing her some songs and she goes to bed .  Any ideas on how to get things back to normal or why she suddenly won't go to bed?

Re: 19-month old suddenly refusing to go to bed

  • My DD started that around that age.  I started laying with her in my bed to get her to go to sleep then moving her to the crib after she was asleep. Now that's our routine.  I tell her time for bed, she runs to "mommy bed" goes right to sleep and I move her maybe 10 minutes later. We are going to start me laying down in her bed with her for a while to get her used to the big girl bed and go from there.  Get creative!  Kids are unpredictable.
