Babies on the Brain

Frustrated/confused

I had a baby on February 19, 2013.  No period yet in September, but I felt off.  Not really pregnant, but checked anyway.  BFN.  I then started using OPK, because I'm 35 and would like to have another baby sooner rather than later.

October 14, 2013, I got a positive OPK.  October 18, 2013, I had cramps and started bleeding.

November 13, positive OPK.  November 17, cramps again, but no bleeding.  Tested, BFN.

I know that the cycle is off because of the recent pregnancy, but it is frustrating.

Just because you're ovulating doesn't mean you'll get pregnant. Keep trying. It can take several months to a year.
That is what I got out of what she was saying. OPK's only give you a prediction of "when" you might ovulate, then it's up to you to actually DTD.

  • Oh, I know that OPKs don't tell you that you are ovulating, only that you might and that it doesn't usually happen the first time.  I've done it all before.  I'm just frustrated with having the OPK only be positive 4 days before my period.  I know it will take time to even out, I'm just tired and feeling pms"y" and ready to be done already.
  • I was really just wondering how long it has taken other's to get back to a regular cycle after giving birth.

Everyone's different but FWIW, I never went back to my old "regular" cycle. Before having kids I usually had 29-32 day cycles with a few outliers. After DD (born in summer 2011, AF returned in spring 2012) my cycles were anywhere from 28 days to 60+ days long. That lasted till I got pregnant with my boys and I haven't had AF yet at 4 months PP. I'm not expecting anything to be regular for a while, if ever.

  • I had my daughter in June 2012, and I'm still not regular yet.  Tracking my cycles has been a huge help, and it's only in the last two months that I've had anything approaching a "normal" cycle.

Temping is tough for me because DD has never been the best sleeper, and it's not unusual for her to be up in the middle of the night with teething, or for her wakeups to vary by 90 minutes, so my temps are all over the place.  I use Ovuline, which uses other indicators like mood and physical symptoms to help predict ovulation.  YMMV.

    Good luck!
