OB apt vs GYNO

Let me preface this by saying I'm probably over thinking this! When do we start our regular annual appointments? I'm not sure if I schedule as a post partum appointment or if I'm calling for a GYNO appointment.

Re: OB apt vs GYNO

  • I would think that a regular annual appointment would be a GYNO appointment. I guess that would matter if you have a separate OB and GYNO but for me they are the same doctor so it really doesn't matter.

  • It's an annual gynocological exam and my doc wanted me in 6 months pp to get back on an annual cycle -- so I've already gone.

A few years a go when I needed a pap smear, I was (rudely) told that both an Ob and a Gyno are for pregnant women and that if I need a regular appt (physcial or pap smear), I have to see a family doctor.
I thought a Gyno was just a female anatamoy only doctor so that's what I wanted for the pap.
Rude and incorrect! There's a gynecologist in my OB/GYN's practice that does not practice obstetricianry (is that a word?).
  • My doc is an OB/GYN so he does it all but he saw me 8 weeks pp and then told me to schedule my regular annual exam/pap at 4m pp.

    And bobo it's obstetrics ;)

  • Haha! For some reason that cracked me up.

And may I just add -- I never thought pap smears were that big of a deal, but this time I swear I blinked and missed the whole procedure.  Guess some things are very minimal compared to labor / c section... ;-)

  • I went in for my annual on Monday. I went to the same practice I saw for my pregnancy.

  • I just had my annual exam 2 weeks ago. I got a full physical exam when I was 12 or 16 weeks pregnant. My annual exam was a year from that date.

  • I see a midwife but at this point it's just an annual well woman visit, not a pp visit. An OB/GYN or midwife is typically who you would see for a Pap smear and annual well woman exam.
