Abandoning swing naps

What do you do when lo suddenly abandons swing naps?

DD just hit 18 weeks on Tuesday. She sleeps pretty well in the crib at night (usually wakes 2 or 3 times a night). She's been taking all her naps in the swing. I just put her in, turn on a little white noise and she falls asleep. I've never been able to get her to nap in the crib or any where else. This was all fine and great until 4 days ago. From one day to the next she suddenly won't sleep in the swing and screams when I put her in it. I'm not sure if this goes along with the 4 month sleep regression or what's going on.

I've resorted to bouncing her to sleep and putting her in the crib, but I can't get her to sleep longer than 45 minutes. Any advice is much appreciated!

  • As long as she sleeps 45 minutes she has gone through a full sleep cycle. Is she cranky when she gets up ?

Yes, very cranky. She clearly needs to sleep longer but won't settle and go back to sleep.
  • I went through the exact same thibg with my son. It took about a month if not good naps but i was very determined to get him to nap in his crib and now he's a great napoer. Be patient and persistent

Thank you! This gives me hope.

Did he do it all at once? Or did it happen slowly over the course of a month?
  • It was all of a sudden. He would.only sleep for 15 minutes and sometimes a half hour max. After about a month one day i was cleaning while he was napping then an hour had passed then 2 and then 3. Now he usually takes between a 2 and 3 hour afternoon nap.
