My Transverse Muffin! Who else has one?

Oh the things we learn with a first pregnancy! This is my first LO, and a few weeks back they told me that he's in the transverse position - left to right across the belly, like a " baby hammock" my doctor told me, haha!

I'm 28 weeks right now, and I know there's plenty of time for my little guy to turn, so in the meantime, I think it's kind of neat. There's always a bulge on both sides, which I assume are the head and abdomen/butt.

We've been calling him "Percy Transversey." Who else has a transverse LO? Has anyone had their baby noticibly change positions? What's yours been up to? This is all terribly interesting to me, lol

Re: My Transverse Muffin! Who else has one?

  • Mine was like that about 2 weeks ago but as of this past Tuesday he was head down. However, this evening oven been getting a show of what I think are elbows and knees sliding around under there..so creepy but awesome! I'm just sitting in awe/slight horror watching my belly move. It really is like that alien movie. ;)

  • Last Tuesday, LO was breech... Thursday, she had her head on my cervix. I've not actually 'seen' the movements, other than some really hard kicks, but I do feel her moving around, and getting some part up in by my ribs, and slowly moving it... It's by far the oddest, yet most awesome feeling!

  • Our little one is transverse. He moves a lot, but not really positions. I tell him every night that he has so many more weeks before he has to find a new position. :-)

  • OMG persy traversy!! Lol! My LO is the same. I feel kicks on my right side all the time and I can see it too.
  • Both of mine are transverse. Baby A was head down and B transverse. Then A flipped breech and she's now transverse. So they are like an equal sign. One on top of the other. She needs to get her act together and get head down!
  • My LO seems to be the same. He/She has been kind of diagonal on both my ultrasounds. I think LO moves positions a lot though, as last week I felt like I was getting kicked in the bladder or something, and now the kicks are up on my right side, sort of in the middle. I've had no rib kicks yet. I wish baby would go head down, but there are still almost 12 weeks for that to happen, that's plenty of time.

PS Less than 12 weeks left! OMG

  • My LO is exactly like you describe. Most days I can see my belly bulge more on the lower left and upper right, and i feel movement the same ways. It makes me laugh. Just this past few days it seems to be moving more vertical, but it was in a very hammock-like position for quite a while!

  • She seems to switch between transverse and breech. It can be very uncomfortable when she has her head burrowed in my side!

  • Last US about a month ago they told me LO was breech.  I have no idea if the baby has moved position since then...can feel lots of movement, but no clue what position.

Can anyone explain how you know your LO has changed positions?

  • Mine was this way until a month ago. Totally like she was kicking back in a lounge chair. I get an U/S every week and we laughed about it. Now she's head down :)
  • I don't think my little one is laying like this. Mostly because the majority of the kicks I feel are around my pant line/frontal hip area? Then on the rare occassion I'll get one on my side so I think he is moving quite a bit just likes to lay a certain way. I definately feel like some part of him is shoving up under my ribcage though because sometimes it gets extremely hard to breathe and I get cramps up there!

     Tickers won't work for me D: I don't know why :(
  • DS1 was transverse for most of my third trimester. It's still early, but check out spinningbabies.com for exercises that can help encourage baby to get in a better position for labor and delivery.

  • 2 weeks ago, LO was frank breech and very, very low.  That put a bunch of pressure on my cervix/bladder, and yes, I could feel it.  Also, she moves a ton around my belly button.  I am pretty sure I can tell when she moves because sometimes I feel small movements down low and much less pressure on my bladder and cervix.  Last night, I felt a hug bulge at my side.  I was worried she would stay breech, but she seems to be a regular gymnast in there.

So, to answer some of the questions about how can you tell if they turn....  pay attention to where most of the movement happens.  It should give you a good guess.
  • My LO liked that position for a long time, but last week the Dr said he was head down.  I feel him moving a lot lately, so I'll be interested to see where he's at this week when we have an ultrasound.  I wouldn't normally be getting one at this point but my hospital is a teaching one connected to a university and I agreed to do a study on 1st time moms, so I get some extra (3D!) ultrasounds.

So we'll see!  Lately it's been feeling like he's literally climbing the walls in there!
