Heart palpitations

I think I saw a similar post recently but couldn't find it. However, I need some advice. Has anyone had heart palpitations? Not just flutters but like fairly significant palpitations? I've had them off and on for the past few days and I was thinking that it was maybe just indegestion but then two days ago I had one that was so hard that I was scared I was going to pass out. I've had them before I was pregnant but never that hard. I'm just not sure if this is normal or if I should be worried. I'm thinking of seeing my primary care on Monday if they continue especially since my OB's office was no help at all. Anyway, anyone else experiencing this or has experienced it in the past?

Re: Heart palpitations

  • I was having having them a lot in the first trimester.  Dr said as long as I wasn't passing out/feeling dizzy, having pain or shortness of breath they were likely benign.

I would talk to your Dr, especially if they are making you feel weak etc.  Hopefully they are nothing!

  • I'd talk to your doctor for sure. I have an extra heart beat and when I was pregnant with DS they did an echo and had me wear a monitor just to be sure. The increased blood flow can make you feel things easier than before though. Everything's fine with mine I just give the docs a fun rhythm to listen to. Hope yours is totally fine too!

  • I talked to my doctor about this. He said when you have the palpitation, check your pulse. If your pulse is racing (at you are at rest), then he would be more concerned. He's having me wear a heart monitor for 48 hours just to err on the side of caution though.

  • I had the palpitations first trimester and also occasionally before I got pregnant, but never to the point I thought I would pass out. My OB said it was normal, but if they are super intense for you I would visit your Dr. It's probably nothing, but just to be safe!

  • I had palpitations starting at 18weeks and still have them a lot! They are normal in pregnancy with the hormones and extra blood flow. But I wore a holter monitor for 24hrs and it showed that my ventricle was beating before each heart beat, the doc said they could give me meds if it was really bothering me but I have gotten used to it. They aren't accompanied by any dizziness or nausea or anything so they aren't concerned about it. Hope yours get better!
  • I would check with your doctor.  I haven't had this while pregnant, but had it in the past.  I realized I was really stressed at the time- working full time, planning a wedding, and grad school.  I took some steps to de-stress, and by the time everything was done, I didn't have them again.
  • I get them but I have a heart condition called P.O.T.S. It's a very mild case, I am on no medication for the condition.
