I had a less than easy pregnancy. Since the birth of my baby, 8 weeks ago, life hasn't gotten any easier. We have survived some pretty hard stuff in these first few weeks of life, but surprisingly, colic has been one of the most difficult. The pediatrician gave me that "oh you poor soul" look as he told me our baby had colic. I could really use some encouraging right now, any moms out there that have survived colic before, please reassure me that there is a light at the end of the tunnel. How long did the colic last? What made it better (besides the 5 S's)? Any any suggestions would be greatly welcomed.

Some things that helped us were:
1. Holding DD and lightly bouncing up and down in front of the stove vent fan - note that this only works if you have a really loud fan. We tried to do this at a friend's house but it wasn't loud enough.
2. Our pedi prescribed what she called gas drops on steroids and it made a HUGE difference. They were Levsin drops.
3. I cut out dairy and switched to Alimentum as I BF her but gave 1 bottle of formula a day.
Hang in there! My DD (now almost 5 and absolutely AWESOME) screamed for 3 months and 10 days. And then like a light switch there were solutions to the problems. (fresh diaper/hungry) It was so much relief to know that I could finally fix it.
It's okay to set that screaming baby down (dry and fed of course) and go outside for 5 minutes and gather yourself. They are going to scream anyway, it is perfectly fine to let them lay in their crib and do it for 5 minutes while you go gather your sanity. Honestly there were times when I felt like throwing something - so I would set the baby down and just go to a quiet place for a few minutes. I promise there is light at the end of the tunnel. And yes, bless your heart!
