TTC Check-In

Good morning! For anyone new, this thread is for those of us who are in the planning stages or actively TTC. Give us an update of how things are going and where you are in the process.

QOTW: Many of us are struggling and have had several BFNs. Looking on the other side of this process, what is something positive that has come from your TTC journey so far?

Me: 30  DW (aka C): 29

Together since 2/15/11 ~ Legally married in NY on 9/29/12

***CP mentioned***

We've been working on baby #1 since July 2013 using Open ID donor sperm.  8 IUI attempts with 5 actual IUIs and one chemical pregnancy.  We have one fresh IVF cycle under our belts as well as a FET.  I have endometriosis and a uterine septum that was corrected via surgery in November 2013.

11/14/14 -  Second HSG shows that tubes are still clear and ute is looking good.

12/6/14 - Started BCPs in prep for IVF #2

12/22/14 - Saline u/s and endometrial scratch (All was clear and OUCH!)

1/2/15 - Began stimming for IVF #2

 ****All Welcome!****

We are Mommas to four fur babies - 3 dogs and 1 cat.

Re: TTC Check-In

  • Congrats Kleigh!

I have a little request - and I am happy to go with the majority on this one --- but would it be okay if we (as a group) - agreed that maybe BFP posts should be posted in a thread separate from the TTC checkin?    For those of us who have been struggling with Infertility it can be difficult to have the thread full of congrats and discussions of BFPs.   I fully, and totally support the creation of new threads to post BFPs and positive tests before beta --- but would really like the TTC check-in to be a place where we can focus on the TTC process.

And my check-in.   I have been cramping pretty painfully since my sono 11 days ago.  I went in last week and got an antibiotic rx in case there's an infection, but the RE said that there's a chance too that the saline just irritated my ute something fierce.   Bah!     I stopped my BCPs on Friday though, so am now waiting for my period to come so that the next phase of our shared IVF-journey will begin!    I'm looking at taking a medical leave from work around the time of the ER/ET - so I'm also trying to plan that out.

QOTW:   Going through this Infertility journey has really brought H and I closer together.   We have cried and laughed and found new ways to support each other through this in amazing ways.  We've also grown really invested together in making our family and supporting us - as a family unit - for the long haul.   It's been a really beautiful part of this for us, and other people (our RE, the staff at the clinic, the facilitator of our IF support group) have all noticed and commented on how connected we are in this.

  • @KLeigh1 - Big hugs and congrats to you!!!!  I was hoping to see a BFP at some point :) So happy for you!!!  Though I do agree with @Manada's request to put this on a separate thread - I am pleased to see your BFP but since you've graduated a new announcement may be best.  With how hard and expensive it is for all of us, it's definitely something to celebrate.  We needed another BFP around here anyway!

As for me, I've got my ultrasound scheduled on Thursday to look at my follies and then (hopefully) schedule my next IUI.  I'm going to buy some OPK pee sticks tonight so I can track my cycle.  It's been 3 days since I took Clomid so I should be able to test without getting a false positive.

GTKY: Honestly, C and I haven't been very emotionally involved in this process.  But then, this is only our 3rd IUI - and only our 2nd IUI that actually counts since the first one was doomed from the start.  I kind of view it as "It'll happen eventually - if not with my body then most likely C's."  When I get the BFN, I'm disappointed, certainly, but it's hard to become attached to something that doesn't exist yet.  Even after I get a BFP on a pregnancy test I probably won't be too excited until I see the first ultrasound and the baby's heartbeat.  I know how quickly (and commonly) a BFP can turn into a miscarriage so I think my knowledge of the process has tempered my emotions.  I know many fertilized eggs never make it because they aren't viable.  It's just a reality of human biology.  I've learned that humans are actually among the most infertile animals!  I wish I knew beforehand how hard it is to get pregnant but I think we started early enough that we'll be okay.  C is 1.5 years younger than me so if I can't get pregnant we'll move on to her.  She's as regular as clockwork so she'll probably have less trouble than me.  She'll carry eventually (at least, I really hope she agrees to it because I would LOVE a mini C :) she has reservations, though.  Scared of the pain.  I'm going to be as brave as I can so she'll feel compelled to do it).

Anyway, long story short - ask me again if I'm not pregnant by next August (when we first started trying) and we'll see how I feel then.  But for now, I just know cognitively that this isn't going to be easy and IUI is never guaranteed.  I've detached myself enough that it doesn't hurt too bad.  Not that I'm saying anyone who gets attached is a weenie - far from that, actually.  I'm also not a very emotional person in general so that's probably part of it, too.

  • We go in tomorrow for IUI with 4 good follies! Excited and scared. This being number 7 we are pretty concerned.

Had a dream about "our baby" last night. It was a girl and she was sooo pretty. I held her, fed here, changed her...it was amazing and at the same time a comfort about this cycle. Our fingers are crossed that we will get one or two healthy babies this cycle! If she gets prego her due date will be right around my 30th bday which would be an AWESOME gift!!!!

GTOW: probably that we are more financially ready then I thought we were. :) maybe not if we have 2, but I know we can do it!!! It has also made me learn to communicate better with Sarah, family and friends.

    10 medicated IUI's (3 with injectables).
IUI #1 (medicated) Jan. 2013-BFP!!!!- Beta's didn't double, MTX shot for possible ectopic.
    8 IUI's between April 13-April 14 = BFN
IUI #10 and final before IVF, injectables May 2014- BFP!!!!  TWINS!!!!

7 week ultrasound showed 2 wonderful heartbeats!
8 weeks to the ER with vaginal bleeding while on vacations!  Diagnosed SubChorionic Hemorrhage.  Babies are both great.
9 week ultrasound showed both babies are still great.

I'm with @Manada. While I'm thrilled for anyone who can get a positive result, I support a new thread.

Keeping my fingers crossed for you @manada that this cycle will be your last! Congratulations @KLeigh

    @AandStillTrying Good luck tomorrow!

As for me, we are excited that our RE appointment is getting close (next Monday!). We are really hoping for some answers and are looking forward to moving along in this ttc journey. This RE has come highly recommended by my acupuncturist and I have an overall good feeling about this office. When we sat down to look at the website, the very first thing we did was read success stories. The first success story was that of a lesbian couple. We live in a conservative county and this was not something we expected. This was a great first impression.

Although we are excited about this next step, I'm very sad that we aren't trying this cycle. I know that we will benefit from waiting. Coming up on the holidays has made it hard to ignore how badly we want our own little family with our own traditions.

GTKY: My wife and I are just closer than ever since beginning this journey. We are already close and she is absolutely my best friend, but this journey has taken us and our relationship to a completely new level. Regardless of the outcome of our TTC journey, I know my relationship with my wife is completely rock solid and that has brought so much comfort. I finally feel settled without settling. What a great feeling :)

TTC our first. Married to, and madly in love with, my beautiful wife. Living with our fur baby and enjoying 19 nieces and nephews.

  • My surgery is scheduled for tomorrow. I'm not nervous yet. More looking forward to getting it done and moving forward. The weather here has been a bit crazy, resulting in my sinuses acting up. I'm hoping this won't have an impact on whether or not the surgery happens tomorrow.

@Kleigh1 - Everyone deserves to know about your BFP! By all means create a new post when you feel comfy and announce to the entire board. Congrats!

@AandStilltrying - Good luck tomorrow! I hope all goes well and you have a quick and positive TWW!

@Goalieswife123 - I too struggle with having to sit out this cycle. It is all for the best in the end!

@Manada - Sorry to hear you are in pain :(. I hope it goes away soon.

@wishiwaspreggo - hope your second true try goes well!

QOTW: I think this process has brought C and I closer, though we were already very close. It has also helped us see who the people are that we want to continue to have in our lives. Those who are supportive and positive. Not only to help support us through this process but also to be positive influences on any LOs we might be blessed with.

  • Well...we are currently 6dpiui.  I am really trying not to focus on it, but it is soooooo hard.  I have some tightening and cramping in my stomach that is not normal for me so I am working on not looking into this too closely

QOTW: I tend to be very shy and not like to ask questions of professionals.  This whole process does start to push me out of my shell and be more active.  It is also helping me to recognize the stress levels and what it does to me BEFORE I freak out. So we have been walking in the evenings to help alleviate stress, anxiety, and tension.  During these walks, M and I usually end up talking about anything and everything.  It is nice. We already talk a lot, but out on walks things tend to come up that aren't everyday conversation

  • Well good Monday everyone!  I had my uterine laprascopy (I swear I can't spell and spellcheck never recognizes medical terms) last Thursday and my DR told my wife while I was in recovery that everything looked good.  After a year of him treating me he finally likes my pelvis :-)  He told us in our first appointment he didn't like my pelvis and was concerned about it, so now its an inside joke.  So we are going to hopefully doing an IUI next month with out known donor.  We just have to figure out his schedule and ours to make a dr appointment, if not we will do another at home insemination.  I almost feel like this month was wasted, but I am glad to have a little break.  Though the supposed minor surgery was no joke.  I was sore for a few days and my belly button is super bruised and a rainbow of colors.  My wife was amazing and waited on me hand and foot all weekend.  We also had a few friends bring over food and I would be surprised if I didn't gain a few pounds :-) eh, oh well!

  • @Kleight1 - Congrats! And please don't feel bad about posting your BFP, we hadn't really established a 'rule' around that and others certainly have before you. While this creates a week of "limbo" on where to post, with all us infertiles floating around right now I support the idea. Meanwhile, congrats - that is a solidly gorgeous 2nd line you've got there and you should be excited!!! Can't wait for the beta!

Sounds like everyone else is doing ok...the only way out is through and I know we are all feeling a little tired of TTC these days. I know I am.

On that note, afm, I passed my suppression check and started estrogen (patches) last Thursday. I have a blood draw Wed. for estrogen check, then I'll up the patches, and we'll do another blood/uterine lining u/s next Wed. before Thanksgiving. The FET is planned the following Thursday, 12/5.

This is our last embie. However, we did decide to do another cycle with a different egg and sperm donor (frozen eggs this time) which is still a lot of money but cheaper than a fresh egg donor. I am able to be MUCH more relaxed going into this knowing it isn't the end. I'm debating whether we go right at it ASAP for our next shot if this doesn't work, or, take a few months to get some lb's off and feel a little healthier/lighter emotionally as well as physically and trying in March or April. We'll see. But for now, J reminds me that indeed, this one still can work! FX.

  • @Kleigh1 - great news, fingers crossed for you! That said, I echo the majority in terms of a seperate thread. I'm also 6dpiui, and I am totally OVER this waiting already! I tested this morning knowing that it was too early but needing to give in to my desire to POAS. I used a dollar tree test. I figure seeing a stark white negative test will give me a point of reference for whenever I do start to see lines (hopefully this cycle). This is my very first cycle so this is all so new to me. QOTD - even though this is my first IUI, I've had quite a long road to get to this point with multiple consultations, doctors, medicines, etc due to being high risk. So, I think that I have learned to cherish my body and my health more. I'm much more conscious of what I put in these days, buying more organic, eating more balances meals, etc. Without this process I would not have had the motivation to be so vigilant.

    IUI #1 - November 2013 - BFN
    ICI #1 (home) - May 2014 - BFP!! Beta #1 - 5/30 - 164; Beta #2 - 6/6 - 4794!!!

I agree with Manada, it is really hard for those of us who have been struggling. C and I are on our eight IUI (me with 5 and this is her 3rd). It is really difficult to watch others get pregnant and although we are so happy for you when the TTC thread is bursting with happiness and congratulations it can be hard to stay positive.

We are also 13dpIUI no AF and no BFP...C is currently 2 days late which isn't much but is a lot for her. So we are still just waiting.

QOTD: this process has taught us so much about our relationship and the roles we play and the roles we don't have to play. We are stronger...now if we could just get that pesky baby...

  • Congrats, @KLeigh1!! I don't think anyone is trying to poo-poo your good news... it's definitely something to celebrate!

I also agree with @Manada's suggestion of starting a new thread to announce BFP's... but don't most people do that anyway? I know I would if I had such good news :)

@StacyLH - thinking of you for tomorrow. I am also a Reiki practitioner so if you would like me send you healing energy during your surgery, I am happy to do so. Pretty sure you'll bounce back quickly though. :)

As for me... next Tuesday we have our next appointment with our FS, Dr. P. We'll be going over my surgery results and discussing next steps. I hope that next step means enrolment in the donor programme......

BUT we are now hosting my (unemployed) sister for the foreseeable future. Since we are essentially a SINK (single income no kids) family, feeding another adult is leaving us a bit cash strapped. This has Smurf getting antsy that we won't be able to afford a child and she has a money meltdown every two or three days. She is constantly worried that once we REALLY get into TTC, the whole thing will bankrupt us. I'm not sure how to calm her down. :( But at least while my sister is living with us, TTC will probably be put on hold. Sigh.

@lamaitresse - I will take all the healing you can send! Thank you :)

Also, C and I also worry about whether we can truly afford having a baby. Well, I handle the finances so I do most of the worrying. I just figure we will make it work somehow. There are a few things we could cut out if necessary. We have been truly financially strapped before and we made it work just fine. I always find a way to make it work.

C's sister stayed with us for a while last year and didn't have a job and we operate on a decently tight budget. It was frustrating at times, but I do love her very much. As a thank you, she paid for our plane tickets and hotels when we went to California for her graduation. It all worked out in the end.

  • @StacyLH24 - you're most welcome. :) There's always a way to make it work... we've done it before and we'll do it again. My sister moving in was a bit of a shock financially but we reworked the budget, and while it means I can't get my nails done (booooooo) for the next little bit, I am SO happy my sister is here. I just hope she finds work in her field soon, so Smurf stops stressing!! But Smurf is a natural-born worry wart, so as soon as my sister is back on her feet, she'll just find something else to dwell on. LOL

  • Hi all,

DW and I went to the RE on Day 10 of her cycle. The u/s showed she had 1 follicle that was 21mm. The doctor said based on that size she would be ovulating in the next couple days. However its now Day 15, we're charting and the fertility monitor hasn't gone up to peak yet and her temp hasn't spiked. I wonder if we missed it or if she's just got a huge egg hanging out. We can't try this month anyway because its too close to her chicken pox vaccination, but this is the second month we had trouble figuring out exactly when she was ovulating. I guess that's why people use triggers. We've ordered the sperm and we're really eager to try our first IUI next month.
  • @2brooklynmoms - I used OPKs the first two cycles and then Ovidrel the third cycle. I will now be asking for Ovidrel every time. It takes the guess work out. It also relieved much of my anxiety about being too early or too late timing wise.
