PIO to yourself!?

I have an overnight conference next week for work, and I'll be away for a night.  Obviously I still need to get my PIO somehow, so I guess I'll be doing it myself.  Has anyone else had to do this?  I'm not nervous about the shot itself, just doing it right and making sure it's in the right spot since I can't really see back there too easily!  I'm only traveling with one male from my group who is newer and there's no way in heck I'm asking him to help LOL.

    I was so freaked out to do it myself, and it actually hurt so much less than anytime DH did it.

    For me I leaned over the bed and just twisted. I spread the area with one hand and then did the shot with the other. I have heard of people propping one leg up on the bathroom vanity to do, but that wasn't working for me.

    I had to do it myself a few times for the same reason - google for instructions - but it can be done and was actually pretty easy (although I always preferred my husband doing it).   Good luck!

    I did all of my own shots! I prefer it that way.

    Ugh - never did, sorry.  I DO know that my clinic's nurse showed me other places I could do it besides my hip - like the outside of my thigh, about two inches above the side seam of my jeans.  She said, basically into any major muscle.  When I traveled on PIO, my mom was there and she did it - otherwise, I would've done the thigh.  I think I would've been too nervous to not see what I was doing.

    i had to do PIO myself once and it took me a solid 15 minutes. a lot of "1-2-3...!!"  a lot of deep breathing helps! good luck!

    I did some myself. It was easier than I thought! I had DH draw a sharpie circle in the correct region of my butt. Worked like a charm! I laid on my side on the bed, reached over with my left hand and pulled my butt muscle toward my front. Then with the right hand(for right side shot), inserted the needle. Aspirated to get one bubble (one-handed, this was tricky but doable). Then injected slowly. Done!
    | Married since 2008 | DH and I: Both 30 | Me: Endometriosis and Carrier of an X-Linked Dominant Genetic Disorder | DH: Low Morph | Planning IVF with PGD and PGS in 2013 | Freeze-All IVF #1: March 2013 ER 3/26. 29R, 12M, 11F. 4 5AA frozen blasts. Freeze-All IVF#2: May 2013 ER 5/15. 31R, 21M, 20F. 6 5AA frozen blasts. Our PGD probe was completed in late June (total of 20 weeks to develop). PGD and PGS Results came on 6/19: 3 healthy embryos (normal chromosomes and unaffected by my family's genetic disorder). FET #1: July 2013 Natural Cycle - Cancelled due to insufficient lining (only got to 7.5mm). FET #1.2: August 2013 - Medicated Cycle with Lupron & Estrogen Patches to build up lining. Single embryo transfer was 8/23. Beta #1: 240! Beta #2: 578! U/S on 9/19 at 6w4d: We saw the heart beating at 131bpm. Second U/S on 10/4 at 8w5d: We saw the heart beating at 178bpm. EDD 5/11/2014

    I did all my PIO myself.  I just stood in the bathroom on my tip toes, turned around a bit so I could see my rear end in the mirror, and aimed!  I never did the "spread the skin" thing, just used one hand for the injection.  I'm right handed but would use the left hand on the left side since I couldn't reach with the right.  But I didn't have any problems.  Once you do the first shot yourself it becomes a lot easier.  There are also videos on youtube of ladies doing their own that were helpful to watch.

    I never did it but have a great deal of respect for those who do. Kudos to you !!!

    Thanks girls!  I'm a little nervous about doing it myself, but knowing that I'm certainly not alone is helpful.  I'm in the process of weaning off of it, so even if I don't get it all in there 100% for some reason it should be just fine.
