Wrap/Carrier after c-section

I am expecting my third baby and will be having a scheduled section in May, I really want and need to be able to baby wear, as I will have a 3 1/2 year old and an almost 2 year old and my husband will be working lots and I don't have much in the way of help.  (I do also enjoy baby wearing), what I don't know is what I can use with a newborn that won't hurt my stomach.  Something like a Moby that ties right around my waist is a no go for the first couple months, I have an Ergo and love it, but again, the way it goes around my incision is just not an option for quite a while.
I'd love some suggestions, especially if anyone has previous experience.

Re: Wrap/Carrier after c-section

  • My mei tai worked shortly after my C-section as it ties up around the rib cage with newborns (it's still well above my incision with my 8month old).

My manduca (similar to ergo) is pretty close to my incision...it wouldn't work early on but I've been using it for at least 4 months with no discomfort.

  • Ring sling would be up above the incision with nothing around the waist
  • I would say a ring sling would be the easiest to get baby in and out of, and to get into by yourself. As well you can have baby high up and keep pressure off your tummy.
  • Thank you

  • Are you having a vertical incision? I had no problem wearing DD in the Bjorn Miracle 1 week after my csection. I would think that with a standard bikini incision anything that goes around the waist would be far enough from the incision to not be painful. Did you have issues with your previous LOs?

  • I used a Bjorn and a Moby about 3 weeks after my C-Section and had no problems. Is it a vertical incision? If not, I don't see why it'd be a problem.

  • I started using my ergo about 4-6 weeks-ish after my C-section for short sections of time.  I didn't have a lot of pain with my incision to begin with though.   I have a ring-sling for this time around that I'll probably use from the get-go.
