Postpartum Depression

Zoloft = Longer Hospital stay?

If I start taking Zoloft now while 22 weeks pregnant, do they make me stay longer in the hospital after baby is born to monitor baby for withdrawal symptoms? I think I need to start Zoloft, but the anxiety of staying more days in the hospital away from my 1st Son would make me wait to start it until baby is here. I am irritable, dread when my husband leaves for work, resent him for having a quiet drive to work, an uninterrupted lunch hour, adult conversation all day etc etc... I had bad PPD untreated after my first DS was born and just havent felt the same since. But I dont want to start it if I have to stay longer... what was your experience?

Re: Zoloft = Longer Hospital stay?

  • In my experience, no.  I was on a different anti-depressant (Effexor) but neither I nor my daughter had to stay longer.  I can't imagine they would have you stay longer unless your baby was showing withdrawal symptoms (which is pretty rare to begin with).

  • I'm on Zoloft now and my doc hasn't mentioned any reason we would need to stay longer after birth. (I started taking it well before conceiving baby and will continue after due to PPD with my first child.) We weighed the pros and cons and the benefits out weigh the risks.

  • thanks everyone!
