Joint/nerve problems from BFing

Just wondering if any of you are experiencing joint pain or nerve issues from BFing or carrying baby around?

I have a history or chronic joint pain (unknown cause) but its really been bad lately from BFing and a baby that never sleeps and wants to be held constantly.

My wrists are very sore and so are my elbows (from holding my boob while she eats). Am I the only one? I'm planning to talk to my doctor about it but I wanted to see if anyone else is dealing with this or if its most likely due to my pre-existing issues.

My hands are going numb at times and I get weird sensations in my forearms. And in general my wrists and elbows are just incredibly sore. TIA.

I already had a couple of issues. But they are worse. After nursing, it's painful to move my wrist and knuckles. And my upper back is always painful.

The hardest thing for me is that I'm very flexible, so I fold myself into pretzels getting comfy with him... But 30 minutes later, or worse, a 90 minute nap in my arms, and my joints are mad at me! I try to remember to sit better, but I do it naturally.

ETA- I get nerve pain in my wrist and thumb, and tingles in my face, which I think comes from the stress on my back. Thankful for my chiropractor or I'd be a mess!

  • Ok, sounds like I'm in good company! @kmcd23 I'm going to be calling my chiropractor soon!
  • My primary care doc told me that his wife got a rotator cuff injury from the way she always held and bounced their son on her shoulder. I tend to always hold M cradled in my left arm and I can tell that it makes my shoulder a little sore.

  • Oh yes. Forearms, wrists, left shoulder. I know it's mostly spasms but I'm too much of a wimp to get the released. Ow. Oh and my mid-back is always a mess now.

  • My OB told me that breastfeeding can cause the body to act menapausal, so that may have something to do with it as well?

I definitely get joint pains in certain areas, and my old back problems flare up, too.
  • My tendinitis acts up and because my circulation has changed since having her I get numb and tingly a lot. I'm long over due for a massage and an adjustment. I'm confident that after that happens, I'll be golden. Hope you feel better!
  • Thanks for the feedback!
  • I am not BFing but have bad wrist pain from holding the bottle.

  • I got my weekly adjustment today, but this time he adjusted my shoulder too. Before he even applied the pressure, it popped! I'm hoping it helps. So far so good!
  • I have tenosynovitis (just inflammation of the tendon) in my left wrist. It doesn't hurt all the time but when it hurts, it hurts! There's been times it was hard for me to pick up C. I got a thumb stabilizer brace that I wear at night and it has helped tremendously.
  • I EP and had to go to a physio to get the tightness out of the soft tissue in my neck. I did about 5 sessions and haven't had pain since.

De Quervians, I had it in both wrists and tried the braces.  They didn't help

I had cortisone shots in both wrists and I am 100% again!  LOVE THOSE STEROIDS!

Having it in one is bad, I can't imagine it in both! I am so glad the brace has helped me. How often do you have to do the shots? Glad you're feeling better!
